Default Re: XYZ 50CC engine did you try...?

Sorry to here about your troubles with the XYZ engines. I bought mine from Ron at SoutheastRCengines and at first I had a problem also. The trouble was I put my engine on a test stand and ran it. The engine startd right up and ran fine for 4 tanks full. Than on the fifth run I noticed one of the motor mount supports on the engine flange had broken. I stop testing at that point and called Ron. He sent out a new motor mount flange and told me it would be best to test run the engine on my airframe. He said the test stand is very rigid and does not have any way to absorb the engine vibration. Being mounted to an airframe the airfame absords a lot more of the vibration and is just a better way to test the engine.

I did what Ron suggested when I got the new flange and mounted the engine to my Skyshark P-40. I than ran the engine for 3 more runs with a lager 24oz tank and so far so good.

Your RPM #'s look much better than mine. I am getting 6950RPM with a Bambula 20x10.

I hope Hobby City stands buy thier engines and you get the support you need from them.

I think support from Hobby City can be pretty hit and miss.

Lots of folks have had good support, some have just given up and had to write off their money.

One of the biggest problems is the fact that you usually have to send your product back to HongKong using some form of tracked delivery.

This adds extra cost to the product and marginalizes the cost-savings you might have made by purchasing from them in the first instance.

I'm happy to buy small stuff from HC but I certainly won't be buying anything as expensive to ship as an engine. Better to buy locally and get some local support.

I wouldn't be too sorry. It seems he bought an FTL 45 and not an XYZ 50.

I am just wondering what one of these would do in an EF 74" Yak. It looks like it is pretty close to the same weight as the Brillelli 46 that a lot of folks are running.

I have an SPE 43cc in my 79" GP CAP 232 and it flies well. This engine out-performs that one from the numbers I've seen. I'm seriously considering trying one in it. Still have one other option I'm considering though so things are still up in the air. The more I read about it the better I like it though.

I have both the XYZ-50 and the Brillelli 46GT. Both engine weigh about the same and have equal power. So thie XYZ-50 should do well in a EF 74" Yak. I have the XYZ-50 in a Skyshark P-40 and I am going to put the Brillelli 46GT in a CMP 80" Zero.

We have been spending the time to built a static test bench to get REAL numbers
out to the ones that have been asking for them. Also for the Website.
By the end of the weekend we will have some numbers from our findings and also
some pictures of what we used to get those numbers.
What we found yesterday is that the 50cc really likes the JXF 21x8 prop a bunch.
More to follow.

If this engine likes the 21 X 8 then it's exceeded my expectations. The rpm numbers for the props should be more then enough. Thrust generated speaks more of the prop then the engine. You tell me how fast it will spin a certain prop and I can calculate the thrust. PE Rievers has a chart on his website that will even do that for you. I firmly believe that if this engine holds up, which it seems to be doing, it will be an outstanding contribution to gas newbies in the RC world. I think any 25-27% plane would be well powered by it. I can tell you from personal experience that it would power the Great Planes 27% planes much better then the Fuji they advertise for it. If no major malfunctions surface by the end of the summer, and I really don't expect any, I would say this is the best deal out there for warbirds and 27% planes. Manufacturers and hobbyists should both be paying close attention to this one. Thanks for bringing it to market Ron.

I am going down to Extreme Flight on Friday to pick up soem 110" Yaks so I will just go ahead and pick up a 74" Yak while I am there. I have enough spare servos and receivers laying aroud that I should be able to put this thing together for very little money.
I am in......Will be ordering my motor at the first of the week.
I will run it through the ringer and let you guys know how it goes.

The XYZ-50 also likes the Bambula 20x10 prop a bunch. I have PE Rivers x-cell file and according to it I should be getting 23+ lbs of thrust at 6950 RPM with a Bambula prop. Both the JXF 21x8 at 6800RPM and the Bambula 20x10 at 6950RPM will produce 23+ lbs of thrust. The JXF will be flying at 45MPH and the Bambula will be doing 58MPH. I will be flying a War Bird so I want the speed of the Bambula. The JXF will be better for the Sport & 3D flying. Just my 2 cents.

Here are the numbers we found from last weekend.
Both engines were new out of the box so we let both run
for about 20min at 2500rpm so that they had
at least some break-in. Also, attached are two pics
of the go cart we used to test.

XYZ-50cc:
Xoar 20x10 ---------- 15.5lbs @ 6300rpm
TBM 22x8 ----------- 16.5lbs @ 6000rpm
JXF 21x8 ------------ 18.5lbs @ 6500rpm

XYZ-26cc:
APC 16x8 ------------ 8.5lbs @ 7900rpm
Xoar 17x8 ----------- 10lbs @ 7000rpm
JXF 18x8 ------------ 10lbs @ 6700rpm

For my own interest, I am giving these engines to a couple friends at our club
to see what the numbers look like after they have some flight time on them.

We used a fish scale that was not short of rust and in need of oil.
I wish we had a better one because we will need to use that same scale
again when we do this after some flight time.

Here is a short vid of a NitroModels Zlin-50 and the XYZ-26 engine.
The engine has about two hours of runtime and is still on LawnBoy
32:1.
