Help! Li-ion on ignition - why not ?

Hey guys,
on my new Evlolution 116CC, i got a Duralite 2000 7.4V Li-ion and a 5.1V regulator.
lately i read in many placed against using a reg on ignition. im wondering why ?
Also, could this be connected to some vibration problems i might be having ?
My problems are detiald here:

I think it has something to do with ignition needing BIG dumps of power
at times and most regs cannot handle this . If the ignition dose not get
the power it requires it can desdroy or damage it self .

If you want to know the entire story PM "Howie" and he give you
the facts , he knows what he is talking about .

I wouldn't worry about it. I've used lithium batteries and regulators on all my electronic ignitions without any problems. Typically, an ignition module draws about 1 amp, so any decent regulator should be able to handle that. Some of the 3W ignitions have had issues with a regulator though. I'm not 100% sure, but I think the newer ignitions were designed to be hooked up straight to a lithium battery, so they don't do well on anything else. It's got something to do with resistance.

As far as vibration problems go, that's a possibility. Usually what will happen is the ignition won't fire on both cylinders, so it will miss and run rough. It may sound like it's too rich, but it will definitely shake like crazy. I had a plug cap go bad on a 3W once and it would just run rough and sound like it got rich all of the sudden. That plug was still firing, but not each time. You would know if if that happened though. With the engine dropping a cylinder, or bad timing for that matter, you'll find that it isn't making alot of power.

On the muffer issue:

3W mufflers have that problem alot. Have you tried making a little strap to help brace the mufflers to the engine?

Well the engine sounds good and is making A LOT of power ! i even tacked it at 5970 RPM on those mufflers (while its still break in rich) with my NX 30X10.

i might try a Nicd just for kicks.
anyone else ?

Hey Guys, I am about to use the smart-fly ignition regulator and 2400 fromeco Lithium ion batt. I guess this reg is set up with a larger capacitor for more amp draw spikes, hope it works out. I am using it on a ZDZ 80. Any feedback?

I'm going to use the Smart-Fly/Fromeco 2400 on my 6-volt ignitions, should work great, have heard good things about it. On the new 3W's ignitions with the tach, you run the Lithium-Ion straight to it, no regulator, got one like that too.

I've been running Li-Ion on my ignitions since I went to gas last year. I have not had a single issue, but am running the new 3W ignitions (50 & 106) which allows me to connect the battery directly to the ignition.

I fly Fromeco 2200MAH Lions and the Fromeco Regulators on my ignitions with no problems whatsoever.. Works great!
