Rusty I am lookin to build a CA extra either 34 or 38 percenter. For that type of model I will be aiming for either DA 100 or 150 and I will be going for cannisters not pipes.

I sure does depend on the model but whatever you do try to steer away from plain old stacks, if you want to fly comps you need to be prepared for noise restrictions if the comp is at a noise sensitive field.

Back to exhuast setups. Can you get cans with the exit at the rear or do the always exit next the inlet (if that makes sense)?? Also does header length affect cans like it does on pipes??
Yes you can get cans with rear exits, and yes the header length can effect cans

What is better a long or short header? What effects does the length have? Or should you just use the standard length?

Generally, shorter gives more power, longer gives smoother transition

So the standard lengths are probably the best of both worlds?

I found some info over at RCU and on the Wild Hare site on installing canister mufflers in the wild hare 28% airframes. So it should be possible to do on the probuilt 28% too. I did also talk to tates and the airframes are setup to accept cans but they are not sure if the pipe ks1060 will fit without major mods.

Ok, I been doing some more research and I have some more questions.. What is the difference between a normal canister and a tuned canister? Do KS make a tuned canisters? if so which one will work on a DA50?

Not exactly sure about "tuned" cannisters, most give some advantage over std muffs, but not the amount of lift full pipe does, IMO.

Thanks mick..!!

Do you guys know if there is any probs with running in engines on pipes or cans? I though I read somewhere that is not a good idea. Can't remember where it was though.

I wasn't really sure.. I remeber reading it somewhere but couldn't figure out why it was a problem. Just thought I'd throw it out there to see if anyone could justify why not to do it....
