Default 3 blade prop for DA100

Hi all, I am wanting to try out a 3 bladed prop on my comp-arf 2.6m Yak.

I am currently running a DA 100 with KS 1060 tuned pipes and a Mejlik 28-10 prop.

I want to try the air models 25-12 3 blade or the air models 24-12 3 blade.

Is there anyone out there with experience running these props?? If there is please share your knowledge! It would be greatly appreciated. Also advice on how to balance these props would be great as well.

PS I mainly fly IMAC with the model. If I want to hover and stuff around I would probably still use the two blader.

The 24x12 is too small, and since you are running the pipes, you can probably pull a 26x12, however the air models or mejzlik 25x12s (and the fuchs 25x12) are all good props, I would go with the smaller 25x12 just for the extra thrust since the yak is a draggy airframe. One thing to consider is the yak's cowling is very wide, and how much blade you will have past it using a 3 blade, for that reason I used a 2 blade on mine. If you want a prop that pulls well and still a 2 blade for imac, try the 3w 27x11 carbon prop, it is wide, quiet, and pulls well, and good downline braking too. I and a friend ran mejzlik 29x10s on our yaks with a 106. I also hear the Vess props are money too.

OK, thanks for that advice! Suely a 26-12 would still have plenty of blade past the cowling,I agree though that the smaller prop would be better, the DA/pipe combo really likes to be revving to be on song.

As for a Mej 29x10, a guy I fly IMAC with has a 106 cs and is turning a 29x10, I think it would load up the DA 100 on pipes too much. Its a sweet combo and makes heaps of power but you gotta let is sing to make the power, thats why I am interested in really letting a 3 blader sing without the bark.

To shut her up a little more, there is a field very close to my house but it is noise sensitive, otherwise the main field I fly at is 70 kms up the road Buzz.

If you want to shut it up, try the 3w 27x11 carbon prop, it is an awesome imac prop, and would bet it would suit your needs better than the 3 blade. I liked that prop on my yak.

You heard DA100 with a 28x12. I would beat it would be better than a 3 blade......actually I know, cause I had a AM 25x12 on the Extra first. Richen 'er up a bit and have a go. DA100 pulls it at 5800. You can try mine at Coota if you want.

Cheers

My 106 in my yak ran full pipes, it liked turning up. It was noisy, but the best prop I tried was a mejzlik 29x10 @6600, the 28x10 was nuts @ 7300+. The 3w 27x11 would spin way up too, but it was quiet, and pulled great.

I think your way of thinking about the pipes is wrong. You have to tune them for a RPM setting. You may even have to lengthen them for the 28x12 which will soften the tune and midrange. I'll help you out at Coota. Have a go at the 28x12 and if you like it, I can help you tune it

Cool!! Will you be there on Friday Anthony??? I am hoping to get in before lunch on Friday.

As for the length of the pipes they are already at the maximum length recommended by Howie, are you saying that I should be able to turn up a bigger prop on the pipes with better reults than normal cannisters???

In that case it would be worth trying a 29x10 Mej as well, Glenn Cosser is running one on his 106 it is much quieter than the 28x10
