Hello! I am building a Extreme Flight 110" YAK and have decided to power the plane with the BME 116 Extreme which I already have. I am looking for a source to buy headers for this engine. I plan on running ESC Composites Tuned Pipes. Please any information would be much appreciated... Thanks, Perry |

| Don's Hobby Shop has haeaders with flex tube in stock http://www.donshobbyshop.com/ Or you can get custom ones made from Karl Mueller you just paypal him at with motor type, header drop and motor thrust offset degrees with pipe kgamueller@rogers.com spacing in fuse and 7 to10 days later they wiil be at your door $58.00 per header. Picture below of my Karl Mueller BME 58xtreme header for my ES Composites carbon fiber tuned pipe! These are cheaper than the flex style Don's Hobby Shop sells and pieces of art. See post #7 and #10 BME-58 I got my eye on that baby! And post #81 DA 25-30CC FOR 120 SIZE PLANES

If you run the composite pipes, they recomend the 11" headers. This is the setup I have on a da 100. With the da the drop is 50 mm, I cant really help out with the drop for the BME.

Thanks for the info fellas! I will measure the drop with the 116 and order a set from Karl Mueller. This plane should be a bear with this engine. Check the video of the 116 in a DR Hobbies Extra. |

A DA header can be redrilled to fit the 116. Or parts can be purchased from AI to weld up your own set (my preference). You will probably wind up with a short header of 9" or less from exhaust flange to pipe coupler. I've used Macks muffled pipes, KS86 canns, and Bud Bottle muffs. My length is 8 11/16 to coupler for all of them without change needed. Around 7" and it gets real "peaky" but amazing power. So you could experiment with a shorter header. Scratch the header length info. Heat fade results from too short of a header. For canns you need a total of at least 14.5" and 17-18" being better. That includes the amount of straight pipe going into the cann and not just the actual header. Contact Branwell for info on tuned pipe lengths. Last edited by Altavillan; 08-19-2009 at 12:58 PM. Reason: header length updates |

Good info...Chris nor any of us have used the BME, so we just didn't know.... But Mr. Muellers name was the first thing we thought of.

Has there been any complaints about the 116 since the improvements? I had a 115 that left me unhappy with its performance. I wouldn't mind taking the chance on BME again based on the feedback of the 58, but have not been able to find much feedback on the 116.

I have a 116 on the way, and it would appear that the "fix" for the 115 is very well known - I guess it had something to do with the reed block and reed block body... but all the 115 owners who have had the "fix" done, seem to be happy - 12 HP from a 4.5 pound motor is nothing to blink at!! |
