its great that your engine is running great but you need to make sure your needles are adjusted to your environment. just because it runs great at factory settings doesn't mean that it's correct.

First time I started my 55 I couldn't get gas to the carb. 10 flips and no fuel in sight. Took the top of the carb off to get to the filter screen, used my fuel pump to squrt some gas in the carb to wet everything. 3 flips later she fired, 2 more with choke off and she's been running great ever since. Transition seemed very good but still took half a turn to get it to hesitate. In other words tune even if you think it is tuned. Good luck

There is a lot of good info on this thread in regards to tuning and trouble shooting, just have to take the time to go back and read. You can also search for engine tuning or gasser for newbies, also good info there as well. Here is the tuning method I use, which very simular process has been posted as well. I just typed this up from Walbro's website. Gas Engine Tuning Lightly turn the needles in (clockwise) until they seat, then back them out 1.5 turns. This setting will be richer than the final adjustment. Final adjustment will be done with the engine running. Some engines manufacturers recommend a preset other than the 1.5 turns, if so follow their directions. The Low speed (Idle) needle is usually the one closest to the engine, the High speed is the one closest to the intake of the carb. Low Speed (Idle) Mixture: The idle fuel mixture is usually adjusted first. Start the engine and let it reach its normal operation temperature. Begin slowly turning the idle mixture (low speed) screw clockwise. As you turn it in, the engine speed (RPM) will increase and then start to decrease as the mixture gets leaner. Note the needle position at the point when the engine speed starts to decrease; this is called the lean drop-off point. Back the needle out and the speed will again increase as the mixture passes through optimum toward rich. Note the position of the needle when the speed again starts to decrease; this is the rich drop-off point. Your final needle setting is halfway between the rich and the lean drop-off points. Once the mixture is set, the idle speed needs to be adjusted. Set the idle speed at the recommended RPM, or just below clutch engagement (in the case of airplanes just before it starts to roll by itself). High Speed Mixture: The high speed mixture is adjusted much the same way. With the engine at wide open throttle, find the rich and lean drop off points and set the mixture between them. Warning: Remember the effects of running an engine lean. Run the engine for only an instant at the lean drop off point. Once the carburetor is adjusted, re-check the idle speed and make sure the engine accelerates smoothly. If it stumbles on acceleration, enrich (turn counter-clockwise) the idle mixture slightly.

Run the same oil that you intend on using all the time. Another words If you are going to run Stihl HP Ultra which is very much suggested. Run it for break in at 32:1 for a tank or two. Adjust your needles to optimum settings DO NOT RUN IT RICH. It is not a glow engine. Then after two tanks run it at 40:1 and adjust needles again and you are set.
