I run Belray H1R at 40:1 from day one in my DL and 3MM and it's great. I e-mailed Amsoil about the mix to run in these engines and they said 32:1 so I switched to Belray. If you e-mail their service department they'll even send you cool Belray stickers for your plane! LOL

What is their e-mail address to the service department? I would pimp my ride out a little with some of their cool Bel-Ray stickers!

Just about any oil at 50-1 will make for a very happy and clean engine. Pick an oil and run it that way from the first day. If you tuned the engine correctly, and don't run them hot because of poor cooling, you'll never have to worry about a thing. You guys running the Amsoil products might like to do an oil cook off between several different oils, including the ones you like using at 100-1. Amsoil and a couple of others don't fare very well. Most of the common chainsaw oils like Stihl and Echo greatly outperform them. Don't argue or debate or pass along what some dealer or magazine has provided, just go do the testing yourself and cook a bunch of oils in beakers at 200c. You won't like the results but you'll have the facts instead of the advertising. Last edited by Tired Old Man; 05-18-2008 at 10:51 AM. |

I agree, 50:1 is a good mix....its not as if 100:1 will give a huge jump in performance, but it is HALF the oil content. With Pennzoil aircooled oil my plane always has a clean belly and engine temperatures never exceed 200 degrees F.

Yeah, id like to know those oil cooking results as well. In addition, does anyone have any input (from experience) about the use of a petroleum-based vs. synthetic oil? ......topics such as plug life, carbon fouling, intake reed stickiness, piston ring life, etc. come to mind. thanks to all in advance
