Default Dalton 35% and a ZDZ 80RVJ

Hey guys, I'm gonna build a 35% Dalton this Fall and winter ,hopefully to have it ready for next year.

I'm gonna go for LIGHT weight without modifying the air frame too much.
So the equipment installed is going to be crucial.

I was considering the ZDZ 80RVJ for weight savings and POWER...
Possibly on a CAN.

So what is the general opinion?

"Rock the airframe full on 3D capable" , or "Umm... yea....it will fly"

Yeah it will fly and have power enough, but it will be almost marginal. Remember that the 35% Dalton weighs around 27 pounds RTF with a DA-100 on mufflers. Its gonna be 2 pounds of less nose weight so you;re gonna need to move a lot of stuff forward.

You're also not gonna have the low-mid range torque and response of the twin cylinder.

Just my 2 cents.

If you go with a full length AMT pipe you will have DA 100 power, maybe more

See this is what I am thinking.
I heard this motor is a RIPPER, my zdz 80 RV blue head after only 3 gallons is REALLY STRONG, so hmmm.

I guess I could throw in the BME 115 as well, cause its pretty light weight...

But I like the idea of only one pipe, 1 header.

Ahhhhhh desicions decisions...

Well, if you go with the 80, go with the full pipe and not a can. Ask Dick H what he thinks about the super 80 on full pipe, its a bad mofo. With either the 80 or BME you will have to get creative to get it to balance, but can be done.

The super ZDZ-80 with a tuned pipe would be a perfect combo, if you can built it under 25 lbs- 26lbs. I have one with KS-95 canister/10 inches header with 33% WH Extra 260 at 24 lbs.
Great IMAC plane . I can do the Intermediate sequence under 50% throttle. Power is needed only in snap roll 45 degre up line.
Mejzlcik 26x10 6600-6700 RPM hot, after landing, Belray H1R, 40:1
The super ZDZ-80 give only 200-300 more RPM than regular ZDZ-80 RV on the ground but it'S lot smoother and it's probalby stronger in the air. I can get 7600RPM with the ZDZ tach in air.

You'll get 7000 RPM with the Mejzlcik 26x10 and tuned pipe so, a PT 27x10 or MEjzlcik 27x10 would be less noisy.

Sleepy. . you KNOW you want the BME115 on the nose. . . . . . .with standard in-cowl diverters and a nice Menz 27-10 prop the thing would be an insane 3D machine. bolt on a 26-12 Mejzlik 3-blade to go IMAC flying.

Oh please..... If you're going to go for a BME, just put the ZDZ on it! It's the way to go, right Kris?

Do the plane a favor and get it a 3W 106 or a DA-100.

Do the super 80 Sleepy....maybe on a pipe???? Talk with Tony how to get weight out of the tail and rock out with it.....

Maybe have Banks do the maiden this time......LOL
