Exclusiv-Modellbau 2.85M Ultimate

Hi guys,

About a year ago, I bought an Exclusiv-Modellbau 2.85M Ultimate kit from Desert Aircraft. I planned on putting a ZDZ 210 in for power.

It’s an all wood kit and is very complete and of excellent quality. The problem is the instruction manual that comes with the kit is in German, and is not available in English. If there were full size plans for the kit it would be a big help, but those are not available either. This kit sells for over $2000 and had I known this before hand, I probably would not have bought it.

I spoke to Harold at Exclusiv-Modellbau, and unfortunately he has no idea when English instructions are going to be available, if at all. He claims it’s very expensive to have it translated and perhaps it is. I tried using a few of the online translation websites, but it comes out in garbled English, and does not understand some of the German words at all.

I’m about half way through assembling the kit, but am reluctant to continue for fear of making an error....

Anyone have any ideas? Anyone have the ability and would be willing to translate the manual?

300 flyer,just a quick thought, I had a big Waco ymf7,and I had the same problem,however I had a local guy here (Werner Kopp),transltate what I coulnt understand, I since sold the kit,but it worked for me. With that thought in mind , do you have a German embassy thare? Perhaps a visit or phone call may get you a secrectary or someone that would translate for a few $$$. My 2cts

I know it's not much help but have a look at this thread in DANISH, theres a lot off pictures, and I bet you will have an answer in english if you ask.

Otherwise try talk to DKjens he will problally be able to help you as he are danish and most danes learn german.

Another place to check for someone that might be able to translate for you is to check with the language department at a local college. When I was teaching Motorcycle Safety we had a student that was Korean, She could speak English well enough to get through the class but could not understand written English for the test. The local college had one of the professors translate the test. It worked well.

I had this same problem when I built my 1.85m Ultimate from them....I looked on their site and used a guys build page in bablefish to convert the german into english. I spent over 50 hours looking at pics and converting the manual into english as well as other peoples builds. If you have any questions or need some tips maybe I can help you. I know this is an older thread, but I just found it after 331s post. Boy oh boy, for a couple G's you think you'd get plans. If no plans, you'd think they would supply a HUGE amount of pictures. I love challenges and it sure sounds like you have a good one here. If I lived closer, I would be more than willing to spend some time trying to help out on this one.....

I tend to agree with you Jeff. Perhaps they dont want people scratch building one from the plans... Dont know for sure. There are a # of pictures included, but they only go so far.

Not sure what Im going to do. I priced out getting the manual professionally translated, and its about $0.25 cents per word. There are close to 6000 words. Definately not an option...

Im considering just selling the kit, and taking the loss... Ive kind of lost interest in it now...

Have you tried google language tools? It isn't going to be perfect but you can usually figure out what is being said. You will probably have to use a german font so you can type in the weird symbols.
