I am looking at building a 1/4 scale cub next winter and would appreciate comments/suggestions as to the best kits or plans. While this will be my first scale kit I would like it to be as close to scale as possible. Thanks for your input.

I'm going to move this to the Giant Scale side, it will fit better in that forum. I'm sure someone out there has some info for you

Hey Cricklewood If you want a good kit the Great Planes or Sig kits are good. the Great Planes 1/4 .60 size is a 90" wingspan or you can make it an 83" clipped wing. The Sig is a 1/4 .60 size 105" wingspan or a clipped wing thats 86".

Try the Balsa USA 1/4 scale Cub. I have one that is in a Grasshopper scheme. It is a little over powered with a 150 4-stroke

Unless it`s under new ownership, I wouldn`t consider Ikon Northwest due to the hassles and kit quality experienced by my flying buddy on an L-19 Bird Dog. Kit wood was really bad and the glass cowl was unusable. The plane was heavy but flew well unless the engine stopped. It was pretty much a rock then. Did not survive the season. Rick`s an excellent pilot with warbird experience but this thing committed suicide twice. We gave up. Bill |

Hi,, I bought a 1/4 BUSA Cub from Bunky here. It is awesome. I put the FT-160 twin on her, and it is super cool, scale sound, looks, and a park flyer supersized. I love it so much, I am building a 1/3 BUSA in L-4 grasshopper scheme like above, which BTW is an awesome job!!! I hope mine turns out as nice. Spend the money on good shock absorbing gear, if you like 1 wheel touch and go's that go the distance of the runway!!!!!!!!! |

Sig and GP have great kits, but I've only flown the Balsa USA cub. It was very scale like and handled well. I would definitely recommend it. 50%

The price is right, but the 1/3 is non-scale. Looks like a Cub from 10 feet away. The biggest detraction is the lack of a top stringer sticking up to "peak" the top of the plane...it is flat. No biggie, if you just want a flier. Now....a Joe Nelitz scale Cub.....THAT is a scale beauty...out of my building skill envelope, for sure. | ||||||||||||||||||
