I have been flying for a few years and am a member of a pretty good sized field here in sunny So. Cal. I am starting to get the itch (and the tax return ) to get a large scale plane. I have a 2001 Toyota Tacoma to carry it in, so something in the 25-30% scale area is about all I can handle. I have had my eye on the Hangar 9 Extra 260 with an Evolution 45 GX2, BUT, I am open to other suggestions. I am going to be a first time gasser with this plane, but I have some experience with glow. I am only flying electrics right now, so this is a little bit of a departure from my norm.I like the looks of the Extra's mostly, but I really like the flying qualities of the Extreme Flight Yak 54 (25 size) and SebArt Sukhoi 29 (30 size) that I currently have. Like I said, any other suggestions are welcome. Mike |

i suggest that you dont limit your self with the H9 260 go with a plane thats got at least 84" wing span like Wild hare Extra 300 new to come wild hare sukio QQ 50cc yak Air wild extra 260 air wild edge aero works extra 260 ultra rc yak 54 all of which fit diagonally inside a nissan pickup bed . If you would like to go with the new Extreme flight yak the 88" er you would prob want to go with a da50 since that plane is going to be 17 pounds and the da50 is more powerful than the evolution 45. Personally i would go with the da50 but its not that important if the plane is going to be 16 pounds. |

Stay away from Evolution and Horizon when it comes to the Giants. The decision should be an easy one for your first...QQ 50cc Yak DA50 Combo. http://www.somenzini.com/html/aircraft/yak86.html or http://www.rcuniverse.com/market/item.cfm?itemId=276726 Also, buy the combo for $1353 if you choose to go with QQ, but, if your handy with paint and ultracote, you can't go wrong with the ad from RCU QQ is a super nice guy, and would even take your call if you have questions (like he did for me!). There's more to an ARF than the ARF it's self, QQ all the way. Do some Due Diligence and look at the manuals from various mfg's, I think QQ has the most complete - especially for a first gasser. Thanks guys. This is the kind of info that I have been looking for. I have a post at RCGroups and no replies is 2 days... Thanks FG! I have also looked at the WH Extra. If the Suk is anything like the 100cc -26 it will be awesome... Doing a search now for more information. I have looked at the QQ planes... I wish he would get the Pythons going in the 50cc size... Then my mind would be made up! I will have a look at the other suggestions. Thanks again! Mike |

It might not be from QQ but there are other companies making a 50cc version Pitts Python. Here is one company that I know of that is making them in 50cc version http://www.aerotech-rcmodels.com/

I am flying the new version Wild Hare Edge 540 with the new Wild Hare 3MM 50 cc engine and it is great so far. Very strong 50cc airplane. 3MM has plenty of power as well. this new version Edge 540 really shine compared to the older versions. I also think you can't go wrong with a 3W Fun Fly 2.0 or 2.3 from Bobby at Cactus Aviation. It is a great combo at a great price with everything but electronics included. http://www.cactusaviation.com/ |

Dont let people drive you away from the evolution motor / giant scale plane combo. I had the EXACT thing you are considering, the H9 Extra 260 with the Evolution 45gx2. It flew awesome. BUT, i do believe that the plane / motor combo was a bit hard on the wing loading. As far as the evolution motor. Awesome. Starts every time after 2 flips. You dont have to dick around with the choke. Super good on gas. I was flying 20 min on a 14 oz tank. I bought a 30% SD Models Yak 54. (aviation models, TOC... whatever they used to be called). I put the Evolution in that plane. It weighed out at 17lbs exactly. Unlimited vertical... hovering... no problem. The H9 Extra was a good first gas plane for me. Easy instructions and a million people have the plane to help you out with problems. (if you decide on that plane, upgrade the landing gear). If you want to spend the money, like others have said, go with Aeroworks, Aviation models, or one of the more expensive arf planes. There is defiantly a difference. Wild Hare planes are really nice too... Buts as far as gas motors, i have had no problems with my Evolution or my 3W. I know there have been 2 people at my club purchase an evolution motor because they see how it starts and how little i have to mess with it. Both of those motors are going in 30% planes as well. PM me if you want more specific answers about that motor. |

wttiger42: You and I have already "talked" about the Evo. You are the one who convinced me to give it a try. I still might. I haven't fully made up my mind yet. There are a few things that I like about the Evo, but the price is close to the "premium" engines out there. The 3mm that WH is selling is almost $200 cheaper. Thats a lot of props. I do really like the smaller Suk from WH and the Python from Aerotech. Those are the 2 that I have selected so far, but I don't know what else may be coming in the near future as well... We'll have to see. I am waiting on my return still. ![]() Mike |
