Default Question about 35% Hangar 9 Extra 260

I was looking over at the NATS pics and I saw this picture of 2 H9 260's side by side. I noticed the one in the back has a lower stab and a longer rudder, while the one closer to the camera has a higher stab and taller rudder. Is the one in the front for 3D flying with the higher stab or what's up?

Man you got a good eye Vic! Those are both McConville's, pretty sure one may be a prototype or a rebuild after an unfortunate hangar rash delux hauling mishap. Either way, they're beautes!

Vic, I saw that and they looked different to me....I was thinking that it was just a depth perception thing and my old age, but looks like you are right.

I'm curious if this plane has been tested with a stab w/ larger elevators/balance tabs. If Mike or someone who knows their stuff see's this... Let me know the flight characteristic difference. I would have assumed the proto was tested with both...

That is incorrect, the higher stab is the prototype which Brendan has been flying since June, the one with the lower stab is the production model which is what everyone will be getting.

Max, after the unfortunate hangar rash delux hauling mishap going to Nall where the fuse was crushed, Mike had a replacement fuse built and shipped to him with the lower stabs to correct some coupling and this was the only correction as far as I know that was made to this plane from the begining when we picked up the prototype back in June.

Vic, yeppers, good eye, Brendan flew the prototype in the NATS and won the sportsman class with it, it is the one pictured in the front, the production model is setting behind it, Mike brought the production model to Brendan at the NATS early Thursday morning as a backup.

Ara, as far as I am aware, the only thing that has been changed as to the original design was the placement of the stab in lowering it.
