Am looking at doing a Yak 54 for next years IMAC season and wanted some input on everyones opinions on who has the best kits.

Im looking for the best plane I can get but also the customer service plays a big part into what I start on.

It would have to be Carden 54,or Comp Arf 55. Im not sure if the Aerotech kits are available yet. They have a 54 and 55.

The SD Yak is a good platform... Are just getting into it??
Cardens are great - but they require at least 400-600 man hours to properly build them.
The Compy Yak 55 not the 3.3 m but the new one 3.0 that is made for the 150 might be a good platform also...
I think Steve Henderson won unlimited with a SD 37.5% Yak last year?
The new HP sereis 37.5%ers from troy Built are hard to beat IMHO...
Or are looking for a model to take you on up to unlimited???

if you want a REALLY competitive yak, i'd say the Carden is your best bet.

There was 2 of them at the last NE region IMAC, one came it at 36 pounds. Both fly extremely well, track straight as an arrow.

I fly a 3W yak, which is not quite a "kit", it's between a kit and an arf, and also flies very well when it's set up. (mine is a little too tail heavy for negative snaps)

Carden or 3W, you can't go wrong.

I am familiar with the SD planes - Have owned them - very good for an arf but want to build a very competetive IMAC plane.

Have seen the 3W's and the Cardens and did not know of any other kits other than Carden and Aerotech.

I just completed a Dalton 260 but for another person which I will do some flight tests on - am wanting to build several different planes and the Yak 54 looks to be what I want to try next season.

We recieved our Carden Yak54 kit after the Toledo Expo and it is a nice Kit,,But we also recieved our 42% Extra Kits from AeroTech a few weeks ago and I wished we would have waited for the Aerotech Yak Kit to come out...The Aerotech kit gives a LOT of bang for the buck...
Give John Sharpless a call....
The money you save onthe kit can be used on servos...or carbon goodies...and you will save a few hundred...
The A T kit has good wood, great glass, and includes a pilot panel(a VERY nice pilot panel)

Just make sure you make an extra effort to build it light, it will reward you better in the end. There is no need for a 40% plane to weigh 40-46 lbs.

I vote for the Carden as well... I was going to build one this winter, but we are moving so that will not work out....

A friend that I fly IMAC with finished the Carden YAK a few months ago. I have flown it and it is a top notch performer. A number of us have flown it trying to figure out the setup. So far there are no mixes in the plane because no one sees a need for them. This is one great platform, you can't go wrong with it.

How about Quique's new "Somenized" 120" Yak. I know it's not a kit but you can't beat the price, quality, and service. They will have a ready to cover version also if you don't like the schemes they have. Mine just came in but I don't know what size shipment they got, if you're interested I would give them a call soon.
