I've had an old Lanier Giles kit sitting around the shop for about 7 years now. Fuse is done (and cut about a pound of it during building. Big foam wings that call for partial sheeting front and rear and capstrips. I'm thinking of sheeting it entirely with 1/16 instead of the 3/32 partial sheeting. My question to all... is this thing worth finishing, or is it going to be a lead sled? I'm not really into 3D that much, more IMAC type stuff on the 'sport' level, just flying and having fun. The plans call for a G-62 up front, but i'm thinking more like a ZDZ 80 or such.thanks! Twangy |

I had one about 6 or 7 years ago. Terry Heddon from Corpus Christi built the thing for me and did an excellent job on lightening the thing up for me. It was a balsa farm of a kit! After covering it and putting on a Sachs 5.8 single, it was a bullet. Not a 3D bird by any stretch of the imagination! I guess if I had to characterize this plane, I'm thinking maybe it was like flying wide open pattern of the late 70's before the turnaround stuff. Put yours together and go fly it because its a plane, for cryin' out loud!! WT |

'Like a 70's pattern plane'... yeah, that's kinda what I thought! But that's not such a bad thing. A 5.8 dirty birdy.. sounds like fun! If nothing else, It might be worth adding some detail to it, scaling it out a bit. Plus, the thing is on the Big side. So far, I've been flying 50cc planes, so this will be a bit of a step up. thanks! Anybody else? |
