I thought I would do a build thread on the new AW 75cc 260 QB. I have one on the way and will start assembly on Friday. I need to replace my Carden 30% for IMAC and I don't have time for a kit build. When I get this one in the air I will start a new 40% kit. After the Cardens demise I have a 3w70 I needed a plane for. This engine is a tweener as there are few planes that will take a 70cc engine. The Aeroworks looked like a perfect fit as it is advertised at 20#-21#. My Carden was 22# and had very good vert. with this engine. Even though AW suggests a 75cc-85cc I thought that if I could keep it below 22# I would be in good shape. I have a AW .90-1.20 Yak that I have been very impressed with so the decision was easy. I only needed to wait 3 weeks for the container to arrive. It's amazing how many suppliers are out of stock on airplanes. Mark |

I'll throw in some fluff in while waiting for the brown truck to arrive tomorrow. I will be using a used 3W70iUS Xoar 24x10 wood prop Hitec HS5955TG all around Kavan chrome 4" wheels Spektrum Rx & Tx MPI Miracle switch w/regulator 2250 mah Li-Po Rx battery MPI switch w/charge port 1100 mah Ni-Cad ignition battery Dave Brown Vortech 4" Spinner, Self-Lightened back plate Wrap around Pitts muffler. I will probably change over to pipe or can at a later date. I am in too big of a hurry to get this one assembled and trimmed for next weeks comp. in SC. I chose the Extra over the Yak for a couple of reasons. I am very close on engine size with this plane and the Extra is lighter and has less frontal area needing less engine to drive it. Second, I think the Extra is probably a little bit better at precision. I chose the Aero-Works Extra because of my experience with their little 90-120 Yak. This plane is very well put together and what little service I have needed has been good. So far I have only needed a new cowl and when they didn't have one separate they broke a kit. I could have even waited for the container but they offered to break the kit. The new cowl was necessary due to a dead stick on the second flight. Not the planes fault. I have since been working on learning the side slip or cross-up to kill speed on landing. There were very few other planes to fit this engine. The SD Extra (TOC) that TBM sells was out of stock and not expected until later in the month of September. The Comp-ARF could of worked but the good looking color scheme was very expensive. Really didn't see any other IMAC capable planes for this engine and I only had to wait 3 weeks. The down side to the plane is that this is the first version of the 75cc. I know they have had the 50cc, 100cc and 150cc so I was not worried. Plus it was a good looking scheme. Mark |

Mark,Glad to see a build thread started on the AW 75 Extra. I'll follow along with you. Mine should be arriving next week. Will pair it with a DA 85, JTEC Pitts, 3 TMB 2600 Li Ions, Vess 26A prop, MPI Miracle Switches, 4" True Turn spinner, and HS5955's all around.Jaketab

I think this is a great looking plane! I have the 75cc Yak with the DA-85. I think you will be well pleased with it and that scheme just blows away almost everything else I've seen lately. My next project will be the 100cc Extra 260 in that color scheme, keep us posted and take plenty of pics. |

The scheme is definitely what caught my attention! I had another project but this takes priority. I have not been this motivated since my first Giant Scale. I will also run a DA-85 w/ Pitts Muffler. Mark I see that you will be running 4" Kavan Wheels. Go to www.pspmfg.com and check the alluminum hubs they offer for Kavans. I am also going to run a True Turn 4.25" Ultimate Spinner instead of a 4".

going with aluminum hubs on the Kavans will defeat the purpose, won't it? If you do run Kavans, clean them thoroughly, particularly at the tire bead, with household isopropyl alcohol and an old tooth brush. Then glue the bead with thin CA.

Alrighty then. It showed at 10:00 this morning. I took the three boxes home and began the unpacking. All parts were there and all seem to be in goo shape. The covering is perfect so far as I have not found any bubbles or wrinkles. Mark |
