Anyone out there flying the 33% SD Extra 260 in IMAC competition ? Looking for info as to what engine and all up weight. Also, can you get away with only one servo on ea. aileron or must you use two ea. panel ? Looking at this airframe as a potential next IMAC airplane. |

I think one of these would be fantastic in IMAC. I have not flown one but from what I have heard all the SD kits fly great. I think a DA85 or 3W 80-85xi and canister would be a ballistic setup. SD's website lists the AUW at 20.9 lbs.

Rusty--Yea I was thinking DA85 also, but I'm trying to see if there is any experience out there witrh this specific airframe. So far no comments from people who have this airplane.

Well I talked to Hatcher from TBM obout this airplane and to make a long story short he told me to talk to Brian at DA about it cause he has been flying one for 3 or 4 months with their DA 85, and to make a nother long story short He speaks well of the airplane and engine combo. I just wish it required only one servo per wing panel like the AW version. But I don't need to make a decision right away, so I'll see what else pops up on these forums and also get reports on the AW version from a couple of people. The 23lb number keeps coming up for both airplanes, so they seem pretty close weight wise. |

Makes me wonder what is going to happen to the current SD line of acro airplanes with the recent announcement concerning Thunder Tiger & Ace Hobby hooking up with SD |

Just my opinion from experience, I know that some 33% ers have a single servo per aileron ,however when I ran my 80cc single in a 33 or 35% plane I have found that the dual servo's per aileron helps to suppress the vibration on one servo, plus there could be aileron failure with one if you fly hard!!!!!!!!

I am currently building an SD 33% Extra, but have not yet decided the engine. I have a 3W 70i, but doubt if it will hold for 3D (But maybe for IMAC?). A boxer-engine will give less vibration also.. I think dual servos pr aileron is necessary on this one, because of the size. I thought about using only one servo and place it in center of the wing, but the aileron is too long and soft. The servohorns from SD are no good - ball links neither. Went for SWB. Rudder servotray from SWB. Batshare/switches/powerbox/killswitch from smart-fly. Fromeco li-ion batteries, Fromeco regulators. Hope to have it finished in a week or two. Does anyone have a link to a vid of this plane?? |

I am presently flying the 33% 95" extra 260 [22 lbs dry ] with a DA85 swinging a 24/12 Mejzlick 3 blade prop. I'm using one JR 4721 servo per aileron, 2 JR 4721 on the elevator and one on the rudder.I'm just a sport flier with lots of aerobatics. This combo is the best flying airplane I ever had. The DA85 really hauls it. Take offs are short, landings are about as easy as you'll ever get.. Hope this helps Stan Hagerstown ,MD

I flew a SD 33% extra with the Da-85 but lost it last fall to XPS failure, just make sure you reinforce the motor box, I had the FW shake loose from the vibration during an IMAC seguence.

I think the biggest change going to TT is lack of support. I bought 2 35% 260s and when I went to Ace for parts they wanted $1100 for a wing an fuse for planes I paid $700 for and they have ONLY a single fuse, wing and thats IT for parts. The pricing was run by the "boss" and he wouldnt budge. So while we dont buy 'em to crash them keep in mind TT/ACE is not showing much support so IF you do crash one, you're pretty much on your own unless you want to wait for a special order.
