I'm kind of new to this giant scale stuff. I consider myself a decent 3D pilot. Although most of my experience is with electrics. Not those styro things but larger balsa stuff. I have been flying an SD 30% yak for a while now and like it very much. I recently decided to get something bigger so I bought a comp arf 2.6 330l. This airplane flys very good however it dosn't seem to fly all that slowly even with a neutral CG. Throttle off downlines seem very fast as well, This surprised me as most people discribe this airplane as feeling very "draggy" or "floaty" compaired to the Comp arf 260. I bought a QQ 102 the other day and love it. It will fly very slow straight down and leval and is extremely stable in high alfa. My question is, If a bought a different brand of Extra, Like say a SD, Aeroworks or H9 would it have a similar feel to my Comp arf? I'm not bagging on the Comp extra it flys a very straight line and I'm sure is better for precision than my Yak. However the slower flying airplanes are better for me at my leval and comfort. Eric |

QQ102,Had it,Loved it,Miss it,Hands down about the best flying planes all around in that size, ask anybody that has or does fly it.Check sleepy c,s review on the hanger 9 260,Mines still in the box. From what i have seen and heard the aerowerks and hanger 9,s are both BAD ASS.The main reasons i went with the hanger 9 is the lhs had it in stock, its nice to open the box, inspect, through it in the van.I come from a long line of shipping nightmares.Second reason, sleepy,s maiden video and waynes video, also very BADD ASS.....GOOD LUCK!

ciressarg -> It sounds like you know what you're doing, but have you tried different props as far as braking and flying characteristics?

Comp ARF 2.6 Extra is a great plane- but my observations are similar to yours: I have always considered them a bit "speedy"- they seem to fly faster- I believe that this is just a design characteristic of this plane.

A couple of guys have mentioned props which is something to look at. What prop/engine are you running on it now? I have the 35% H9 260 and am really enjoying it, but I have not flown a 35% Yak to compare it against. |

I'm running a metzlik 27x10 with a DA 100. I think a lot has to do with the trailing edges on all control surfaces being sharp instead of 1/4" to 3/8" squared edges like a wooden airplane. I know that in pylon racing the sharper the trailing edges are, the faster the airplanes fly. Maybe one of the guys at my field will let me try a wood constructed Extra so I can compare. Otherwise I'll just have to buy one and find out for myself. So now the next question H9 260 or WH 300. I can't imagine that with the popularity of Extra's that this is typical. Thanks for all your input. Eric |

ciressarg,I think you have it about right. I have had many Yaks, have a Sukhoi and the 35% H9 Extra now. IMHO the Yak and Suk are better at 3D, and have slower down lines. The Extra is not quite as comfortable for me in 3D, but excels in precision. For all all out 3D I prefer my Suk over the Extra. For a mix of 3D and precision, the Extra is better. Like others have said, the prop makes a big difference on braking for any airframe.
