THIS IS A BUILD THAT WALT (BBW) IS DOING ON MIKIE'S SITE. HE IS BUILDING THIS PLANE FOR ME, SO I THOUGHT I WOULD SHARE IT WITH YOU GUYS. Finally: I've started on TBOOBS Yak. As always I will do all the sheeting /panels first. Boomer is ready, he pee'd on the kit. I'll show his DNA stains a bit later on. This is all old hat for the Pit's bro's so I'll just kinda breeze through this kit and I'll post as the progress continues.. Enjoy Bro's it's going to be a good ride...Walt

All the sheeting is edge glued. The yak has more sheeting work because of the fuse bottom behing the cowl. Basically there's more foam work cause the fuse is round. This does look to be a large plane at 32%. This build is going to be a fun one, Boomer's had wood since I opened this kit, knowing TBOOBS and all.

Top and bottom decks: All the sheeting for the entire plane is edge glued and cleaned up..The skins are sanded with 220 and all the ridges and seam lines are smooth..Time for the probond...This will go on for a couple days or so, there's a lot of pieces to sheet

The decks are out from under the weights and all the parimeters cleaned up. The rudder/fin is setting up next. I have the servo mounts made and the wings are layed out for the servo locations. Carden calls for a 4-3/8ths constant cord aileron. I opted to taper the ailerons from 4-3/8ths to 5-7/8ths. This will allow more aileron than Tbob is pilot enough to keep up with and will add to the entertainment on the maiden voyage..Yee Haa

Getting ready to sheet the wings. I took a 12 inch Tee sander with 100 grit and at about a 45 degree angle to the seams I hit each skin. I overlap 2 seams with each stroke to keep the sheet flat. After this I go over it very easily and quickly with a Makita palm sander with 220. Again I try to stay on top of the seam or glue joint on each sheet. After this I polish each skin with a piece of 400 glued to a chunk of flat styrofoam with 3M77 adhesive. These skins are dead flat, and are about ready to cover. I trim each skin to be 1/4 inch bigger than the core while its in the shuck. Other than the coloration in the sheeting the seams are almost invisible and can't be felt with your hand. I am able to get all 4 panels doing this method done in an hr. or so. I pre assorted the sheeting to have the nicer wood on the top and the **** wood on the bottom. There ready to glue on

Got one wing out from under the weights and got the other one under. I let these set up for 24hr's..Parimeters are on the one thats sheeted and I also put the leading and trailing edge on the fin/rudder core. While all this is setting up I layed out the servo locations for the elevator/stab core. Should have the servo box's installed today and then the stabs will be ready to sheet. I've had problems matching the stab angle to the fuse on the last 2 kits I've built so on this one I"ll build the fuse and check Cardens cut on the inboard root end on the stabs before I sheet these parts.

Got the wings all sheeted and shaped in. Made a template for the stab attachment modification we've been doing. On this one I"m going to use Light Ply for the root rib on the stabs other than birch ply to save some weight.

Balance calculations: I am getting ready to start the fuse. The motorbox modifications are first. I mocked up the motor and cans to get a location for the tunnel floor. After this I lay out the cutouts in reference to the plans to avoid cutting into the areas where the formers are. Tbob's is going to run MTW's, total weigh of this system is 30.1oz's. The stock muff's from DA weigh 10.2 oz's. With this I can figure on trying to get 19.9oz's out of the nose of this plane. Experience with the 40%er's, NFW. I now know that it'll be safe to run 2 rudder servo's and still achieve a balance close to the origional design. I will guess I can get a total of 16oz's out of the motorbox.
