Default Comp-ARF 2.12 or 2x2

I'm trying to decide what i should find under my christmas tree this year.

Comp-Arf 2.12 with DA50 or a Comp-ARF 2x2 with YS-170DZ

Someone must have some experience with one or both of these.
So what does everyone think?.....opinions, ideas, pictures.....help

Go with the gas, much less money in the long run.

I agree gas will be cheaper to run, but any idea on the performance of these combinations?

2x2 on a DA50 is a great combination.

Or you can try the 2x2 with DA
When it comes to a big muscular plane like that take a gas engine, less moving parts means less trouble, especially when it is so small.
The 170 is a very powerful engine but very expensive, if you take in mine the full and the engine price.
Go with the DA on both the choices.

I think both planes would be great with the DA50, i've seen a 2x2 with a DA before. It Looked great.

I think i'd probably get the 2.12 if i decided to go with the gas option.
It has the tunnel for the pipe, lighter wing loading, IMAC legal, etc

But i am tempted by the YS powered 2x2.
I have been watching the pattern planes, and the YS engine seems to have nice smooth power.

The fact the 2x2 is a little cheaper almost puts the build prices at equal level for the two options.

But like you say, the running costs of Gas are far cheaper.

I guess the question is,....would the YS 2x2 be more fun than a DA50 2.12

CompArf 2x2 is a good plane but its power to weight isnt as good as the 2.1 with the DA50 engine and you can run a pipe on the 2.1 as it is setup for that.
YS is a very expensive engine to run in a pattern plane or an IMAC plane.
Do yourself and your pocket a favour and buy the 2.1 you wont look back after you have used a Gas DA engine.

The DA50 is the perfect motor for the 2.12m, and with and AUW of 15-16lbs it will have outstanding verticle performance.

I have owned both planes.
the 2.12 is the way to go, lighter wing loading and a lot easyer to build and a hole lot better looking. the 2.12 has rudder hinges already done the 2x2 is like a kit and the 2.12 is more like an arf. the 2.12 has a tunnel/firewall for pipe and you just glue the wood to that ,the 2x2 has no fire wall you have to figure where to glue the firewall in. the 2.12 has a clear canopy and 2x2 has a sold painted canopy. i also own a comp arf 2.3m extra ,shown in my avitar pic. the 2.12 has robart type hinges in stab and 2x2 is skin hinged. making the 2.12 have equal throws, where the 2x2 needs differental. i had a problem with the elevators on the 2.12 wear the hinges were not drilled in the center, and they gave me the run around about fixing them. they wanted me to send them back to tieland(sp) for inspection and or repair, finally they paid me 50.00 to fix them myself, in my opinion comp arf wont stand behind there product and Andy Cane just refered me back to the factory whome i could not communicate with. i have owned four comp arf planes and they all flew great, I just hope you don't need help after the sale.i do like compafr planes, just miffed about being left out to dry on the 2.12 . i had first production run and they have fixed all the problems they had.

We will soon know. I will be picking up my 2.12 in 2 or 3 weeks.
I have two weeks off, so it will be interesting to see how much i can get done.
General feedback so far is that most people haven't found any problems with them.
Hope i have the same luck.

Go with the gasser. It's quite a bit better what I think. Or you could fly the 2x2 with a Da50.
