| I just purchased a lanier edge 540, 87", and I think I went overboard on the motor with a da85 ![]() ? ?I'm new to the gasoline airplanes. I've been flying nitro planes for 15 + years and I finally made the leap to big planes. When I seen the new da-85 I knew I wanted it. And when I seen the new lanier 540 I knew I had to have it. So I bought them both. Now, I think I have too much motor. Any information, comments, or suggestions would be helpfull on mounting the engine and possibly beefing up the motor box. I also just finished 1/3 scale Christen Eagle II with a fuji 64 in the nose. Has anyone seen or flown the Eagle? Have pics of 540 later .ok i got some pics finaly any body have this plane with pics of beffing up the firewall new to the gas game anything helps Last edited by yfz450; 11-20-2007 at 10:05 PM. Ditch the Zinger prop. Get a nice Menz or a Vess or at least a Xoar. You will enjoy the plane MUCH more.

The Edge you bought is for a 50cc, you can't go wrong with DA or 3W. So I believe you either need to return the 85 and get a 50, or buy a 33%, or do both and have 30% and a 33%er!

You might be able to get away with the DA-85 in the Edge, but it'll probably fly heavy. I'd get rid of the Edge and buy a 33% plane or sell the DA-85 and get a DA-50 for the Edge. Lanier has a 94" wingspan Edge that is designed for 80cc range motors. You can read more about it here: http://lanierrc.com/airplanes/lana1187.html I have a GP Christen Eagle II that is for sale on the swap page. I flew it with a Fuji 50. Make sure you have the plane balanced correctly. Mine came out heavy with the Fuji 50 in the nose. Also, as someone else said, ditch the Zinger prop. It is garbage. I flew with one for a few flights. I wasn't getting the power I wanted, so i switched to a Xoar and I am happy with the results. Also, strengthen the firewall if you haven't already. A 64cc engine is a lot of motor for this plane. |

If the 85 fits then slap it on, the more power the better especially with a plane that is larger and heavier than your average 50cc reinforce the firewall some and you should be fine. just remember throttle management and a three blade prop. |

if you look on the website it is even rated for an 80cc http://www.lanierrc.com/airplanes/lana9073.html you will do best if you add some angles or brackets (aluminum or carbon fiber for lighter weight)to the firewall to help support the pull and vibration of the engine. |

There is a build thread on RCUniverse that goes over strengthening the firewall. Do a search and you'll find it. You'll like it with the 64cc engine, but the firewall may not be strong enough to handle the vibration/power.

Hi Folks, Already ordered the Lanier EDGE 87" and I originally had in mind the Fuji 64 or maybe the ZDZ 60. Seems it is a most to strenghen the firewall in this case, any pics or tips ? How about the servos ? Futaba 3305 MG (125oz-In on 6 V) all over ? By the way do you think a Futaba 12Z is a must ? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Skywalker (using my Firend's account since I am too lazy to create one) Last edited by skhalil; 12-13-2007 at 07:03 AM. |
