Hey guys, I'm pretty new around here, but I know that you guys are the best resource for 3D hucking for Fatties. I am interested doing an E-conversion of WildHares 120sized Edge 540. http://wildharerc.com/products/Edge540Extra260/ Has anyone done this here? I'm just looking for general info at this point. How many watt's am I going to need? How many cells am I going to need to run? Do I need to take additional weight savings measures? I would really appreciate any advice you guys can lend!! Thanks, Andy |

The OS 120AX they recommend puts out about 3.1hp, which should be around 2300watts. If I can get the same weight, I should be good with a motor in this range right? How about either of these two? http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=5144 http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=2097 Thanks again! |

Hey Shaggy, If the weight estimates on Wildhare's website are correct, this plane should be a great flyer and 2500 watts sounds perfect. You have a lot of choices as far as power systems go. To name a few: Hacker A60 22S; A60 18M; Hyperion Z5025. I'm not familiar with those Chinese motors but the price looks good. I would go with a 10s battery set up like FlightPower EVO 25's or Thunder Power Extremes in the 3700 - 5000 mAh range with the smaller batteries more for 3D (lighter wing loading), or maybe some A123's if money is more of an issue than weight. You'll also need a good ESC that can handle the voltage of the batteries, like a CC85HV or a Hacker/Jeti Master Spin 77 or 90 Opto. Good luck, keep us posted. |

Hey man, Thanks for the feedback! The only reason I'm considering doing this thing with Epower rather than an OS120ax is that I have heard tons of great feedback about those chinnese motors and batt's. I'm thinking I could run two 5cell packs in series so I'm runnin 10s rather than 9 and thus getting more of my power from voltage rather than current. That way I could also use those 5s packs in a 60sized setup if I end up being satisfied with the chinnese gear. If anyone else has done some Econversions that would like to help me pick a motor/prop combo that would be awesome. I'm not sure what KV I'll need, I'm assuming with higher voltage (ie 10s) I should shoot for a lower KV wind. Thanks again! |

Ok I used the following motor and did some stuff on moto calc and here are the numbers I got for you. HXT 63-64-A 280Kv 65A Brushless Outrunner (52-30) Prop: 16x8 APC Battery: 10s1p 4900mAh Motor Amps: 59.962 Prop Pitchspeed: 71.2 mph Static Thrust: 283.2 oz = 17.68 lbs of thrust. Efficiency: 91.6% Motor RPM: 9394.61 It looks like you will have more than enough power with this set-up. The only thing I would be careful of is buying cheap chineese motors and batteries. You don't wanna spend all that money and end up with a poor or dead product with no customer support. Here are some other motor suggestions: AXI-5330-18 Hacker A60-20s Himax HC6320-250 Hope that helps!!
