I don't own the plane, but to be serious, it would be incredibly stupid to put the 85 on it. It's rated up to a 60cc. It's structure it built to handel just that. Not an 85. 50%

I own the EF 88" Yak. Have a DA 50 with stock muffler on it. More than enough power. If you want crazy power, run it on pipes. A DA 85 would be WAY overpowered for that airframe. It simply isn't necessary. I have seen DA 85's yank lightly built 33% to 35%er's around with no difficulty.

My friend just built one with DA 50 and pipe and it has more than enough power all the time a DA 85 would be way too much for that airplane....IMHO

everyone wants to overpower their planes and some I would have to agree that it might be fun but EF planes are built really light for their size you will probably end up having to reinforce in many places and will end up with a heavy plane that flys really fast and has unwanted stall characteristics. A brillelli 60 (366) will have more power than a stock da and weighs only a couple ounces more.

I'm sure Chris will stop by and give you his advice here shortly, but he told me on the phone that he doesn't recommend this airframe for 80s or 85s. Mine flies very, very well on a Brillelli 60CC on a JTEC pitts muffler.

DA50 vs DA85 is a 5HP vs 9HP at the additional cost of 1.2 lbs. Do the math

ZDZ Super 80 has been done on this plane , and it was a mistake. One of the biggest problems was landing. It would make enough power at Idle to literally take the plane off. Violent vibrations at a slow enough idle to almost stop, and immediate cracking and loosening of everything on the plane. Now for juvenile overpowering fun, complete disrespect of one of the best 50cc airframes ever, not caring about the damage, or consequences.... it is cool. Be prepared to put ALL the batteries in the tail, and having soemone to release it before takeoff, and a remote kill to make landings possible. Kiickass fun...for a time. |
