Guys, I would like to know if there are any companies out there, who are producing composite planes in the 50cc, 75cc, and 100cc size, OTHER THAN Composite-Arf, and Xtreme Composites???? I THINK I've seen 3W or Flyfan (never was sure if this is the same company, or two different ones???), but I THINK these are ALL 40% or larger planes, correct? Anyhow, I would like to know also, if anyone can give me info on the XTREME Composites planes? Their website absolutely sucks, and I would like to know if they offer 50cc, 75cc, or 100cc planes? If so, how much are they? Where is the best place on the net to find pictures, pricing, and other info on the Xtreme Composites Planes???? Thanks for any help guys...

The best place to find info for Extreme Composites planes, in the US, http://www.bvmprops.com I bought a 2.6 Edge 540 there before Christmas.... still waiting on the maiden. They do have a LITTLE better site than Extreme Composites, but its not great. If you're interested, give them a call, it saved me a couple hunderd bucks! You could also look at http://www.krill-model.com Krill makes a popular katana, a Velux, yak, and other pattern planes... I don't know how competitive these are priced, but they do have a reputation for being great planes. Last edited by reyn3545; 01-31-2008 at 10:42 PM. |

3W has some smaller planes in the 100cc size. www.aircraftinternational.com Krill and 3W are both very high quality but more expensive that Comp Arf or xTreme (BVM). I have had all three and the 3W quality is amazing. |

Guys, I'm having trouble finding the 3W composite plane offerings. I have seen the Aircraft Int'l site, and it doesn't really tell you WHICH planes are composite. SOME say "gel coat composite fuse", but I don't know if that means the wings are wood built, or what? Is there a 3W website page which notes which planes are composite????? Secondly, anyone know much about Flyfan? I KNOW Joe Hunt has shown some short review threads on these planes and they are sweet looking planes. I always got the impression that Flyfan had something to do with, or was made by 3W. Can anyone confirm this?

Hey - if you're still looking.. take a look again at http://bvmprops.com They've reduced the price of their Castrol scheme 2.6M Edge 540 to $995... you won't beat that on a composite plane anywhere. |

Hey reyn, Those BVM Composite planes are the "Xtreme Composite" Planes, correct? OR am I wrong here?Regardless, Can you guys tell me how the elevator, rudder and aileron hinging is done on the XTREME COMPOSITE and BVM Composite planes? Are they done EXACTLY like Comp Arf brand planes, OR is the hinging done differently???? Thanks for any help...

You are correct, BVMPROPS markets the Xtreme Composite line in the US. The hinging is very similar to the Comp ARF hinges. There are phoenolic arms coming out of the elevator that fit into slots in the stab. A steel rod (hinge) is provided that goes through the length of each stab. I think Comp ARF uses a long tube instead of a steel rod, but the concept is the same. Mine has just a little play in it after assembly, and there are threads on here about drilling out 2 of the phoenolic arms in each elevator and installing bearings, then putting a 2mm carbon fiber rod through the assembly to replace the steel rod. I've got the bearings, waiting on the CF rods to show up. The linkage isn't bad right now, but I think this will tighten it down just right. Without any additional filing, i'm getting about 40 degrees movement in both directions on the elevators and the rudder. Some folks have sanded the slots out to get more throw... I'll have to wait and see what it does in the air. |
