Default PAU Ultimate DA 85

Here are some pics of my DA-85 install in the PAU 37% Ultimate. I should have an AUW in the next day or two.

Well after getting everything in the plane and putting it on the scale. I can say this will put the DA 85 to the test. The AUW dry is 27.5 lbs. I may be able to shave a 1/2 lb. off if I do alot of hole drilling so I will see what I can do.

Try it out and let us know. It'll fly it, just how well it does is the question

How did you make your mount? I cut out some ply with my scroll saw for a spacer on my 85 but it was only a 1/2 inch spacer and was a time consuming PITA.

I glued 4 pieces of 3/8 ply together, then I used a hole saw to core out the center. I then used a scroll saw to cut the cutout pattern in the center and cut away as much material on the outside as possible. I then cleaned it up with a belt sander. It was not too bad and if I remember correctly it came out at around 5.3 oz.

I figure I will fly it and see how it goes. I am right at sea level so I will get the most out of it. Given the fact that it is a bipe with alot of wing area I am sure it will be good. I am waiting to get my Tx back so I won't be able to fly it for another week or two but I will post the results as soon as I can.

Well I finally got some flights on my BME Ultimate/ DA85 combo over the last couple of days. My AUW ended up right at 27.5 lbs. I am running a Jtec pitts with a NX 27x10 prop cut down to 26 inches. This was not my prop of choice but one I had laying around until my Vess 26B shows up. The performance of the combo is very good. I really don't see a need for any more power than this setup. The plane hovers at half throttle and pullout is decent. I think it will be much better once I get a prop that will spin up faster. I would not hesitate to recommend this setup to someone looking for an all around fun light wing loading setup.

Awesome! Glad the combo works for you. I ended up going w/ a PAU 36% edge, it should be here in a couple days! I have a 35% WH Sukhoi thats I'm itchin to finish too, spring is creeping up on us real fast!

dbcaster,

Thanks for the flight report; I am glad it works out this well.
Many were wondering if the DA-85 had enough power for this plane. Now, we all know.
Wishing you lots of fun with it!
