Default Cowl ring advise

My new yak came with a cowlring that you have to attach yourself. I have never had a cowl with a ring let alone attaching it.
Any advise you pros can give would be great.
What glue should i use. Someone else suggested hysol 9462 but if i read it right you have to buy the plunger also. Cant see spending that much on something that will rarely be used.

Thanks for the help
Eric

Eric: I manufacture brackets for attaching the cowl to the ring. They are made of aluminum and are $4.00 each. They can also be used for setting and maintaining the horizontal stabilizer incidence.

Here is a link to the destructive test video.

Just CA it. just make sure you rough up the surface with some 100 grit sand paper. If that does not create a good enough bond for you. you can always put some light fiberglass cloth strip along the glue goint and just use thin CA on that.

That is how I do all of mine.

Cheers

I wouldn't use CA.

CA gets very hot when it activates and can distort the cowl or even burn through fiberglass.

Get the Hysol and the gun (trust me, if you ever build or rebuild you will want this glue).

If you don't want to use that you can use some 45min epoxy with microballoons. Then you can put some fiberglass cloth on the inside to keep it nice and strong.

For attaching to the fuse. My planes I simply drilled through the ring and matched that hole to the fuse and drilled through that. Put a blindnut in the fuse or in the ring and screw it together.

If you ever used the 9462, you would love it! It's the bees knees for attaching wood to fiberglass. Also excellent for any high stress application. In my turbine aircraft, I sealed the wood bulkheads first with some polyU and then glued in the bulkheads by tacking with CA and adding 9462 fillet after that.

Thanks for all the advise. Went ahead and spent the $ for the hysol. This stuff is great.
Spent hrs making sure it was straight and flush, got it glued and still managed to screw it up
When i set the cowl on it doesnt sit flush. Has a little rocking to it. It will tighten up without distorting the cowl but worried if it will hold with the vibration.
Trying to decide to cut it out and redo or run it and see if it holds.
