Default My next plane!!

Hey guys - Ok I have to decided to bite the bullet here very soon, I am just about to finish up an Aeroworks 75cc Yak/ZDZ Super 80 combo. So I have decided that my next plane will be a QQ 102" Yak/DA-100 (new version), I have heard great things about QQ planes and service so I am going to give it a try. Anyone have any 102 Gen III pics out there, I am interested in seeing them if so. Thanks

good choice on plane.. I have some photos and will post them soon... In return i was wondering if you could answer two questions with your opinion..

1. can i use the smoke fluid from my smoke machine (for the holidays) as a smoke oil in my plane?

2. If im running canisters ( which i am in the QQ yak) should i tap both of the canisters and put smoke fluid in both or only one.. i'm looking for a heavy smoke

Patrick- I'm sorry I really don't know the answer to your questions, however I'm sure that there are plenty of guys on FG that can, so someone please chime in on Patrick's questions if you can.

Patrick,

I am no expert on smoke, but have had several gas airplanes with smoke for almost 20 years.

Definately tap both canisters.

As far as the oil, I've tried plenty through the years including combinations of:
Diesel fuel
Kerosine
Concrete form release oil
Transmission fluid
Lamp oil
Commercial oils (Bennett's and Super-Dri)

The commercial oils work the best, but are pricey (with Bennett's working slightly better than Super-Dri). The trail from kerosine is too short (dissipstes to fast). Diesel fuel is obviously cheap, and works reasonably well, but not as good as the commercial stuff.

I'd say try the smoke machine oil and see if you like it.

Personally I hate paying the steep price for the commercial oil but that is what I settled on. I justify it by realizing that not many days are ideal for smoke (obviously a clear blue sky is best). So I don't use all that much each season.

I wish I knew what was in the commercial stuff.

Use a check valve near the tap in the canisters (I use one check valve just prior to the "Y" that goes to each canister).

Jim
