landing gear EF yak 88"

What are your thoughts about the stock landing gear that came with the extreme flight yak 88"? It looks a little weak and flimsy. Is it ok to use it or should it better be replaced by a carbon landing gear?

I've seen a 50 cc yak dead stick. Droped from a good 8 feet. Ya the gear was twisted up and didn't ripp out. I am convinced the light gear saved his airframe from other damage from energy being transferred into the airframe.
I say keep it.

We've got several of the 88" Yaks at our field. No one has really had a problem with them, but they sure do bounce around a lot when you fly off of grass. I've seen some of them spring out after landing, and have to be bent back. I personally replaced mine with a nice carbon fiber gear from GraphTech. I like it a lot better, and it looks good. Everybody that still has the old gear says that it saves the plane on a hard landing. That is true, but if you notice, the new 100 cc Yaks that are going to be out soon to the public, have carbon gear. BTW, I'm on the list for one.

around the 5th flight or so I had a dead stick with my Yak that I could not make it back to the run way, and the picture tells it all. I did not break the end off of the CF tune pipe. I took the gear off and straighten it back out and here I am 30-40 flights later with no plane damage.... The plane will land super slow so you can actual take the bounce of our those landings........

Everyone seems to be happy with the stock extreme flight yak gear and I really think that there is a big misconception concerning carbon fiber gears. I have put carbon gears on my last 3 planes to keep them light and I was told that the gear plate would rip out before I broke the carbon gear! Would like to hear from other people using carbon gears because from my experiance they are not as strong as the aluminum. On any slighty bouncy lnding the carbon gear tends to delaminate right where it curves from the flat part on the bottom of the fuse. I dont like them for this reason but they are much lighter than aluminum, just want to hear other opinions on carbon gears and if anyone is breaking them as much as me.

Don't know about any of you...but I would rather take my gear off and straighten it than mess with glue.

I'm convinced the gear saved my 88'' airframe out of 185 flights,
I changed the gear one time because of a hard landing.

OK, you convinced me that it is no problem using the stock landing gear. Just one more question. What is your opinion about using the "louver" to minimize the air inlet? Is it necessary? I don't want to cut the cowl.
