I've been really impressed with the flying qualities of the Yak on the G4 sim. There is virtually no coupling. A friend of mine says the Yak on the sim is a pretty good representation of how his QQ Yak (100cc) flies. I'd like to have a Yak for the new flying season, but can't decide which one. I would get a QQ Yak in a heartbeat but I'm not crazy about his color scheme. The Aeroworks Yak has the best color scheme in my book, but I know I shouldn't choose an airplane based on that. Does anyone have any experience with the following 100cc Yaks: TOC Extreme Aeroworks (or any other make of Yak) thisisnotmeanttobeabrandwar!! ![]() Thanks Jim |

I have theGen II QQ yak w/ DA 100, Vess 27 A prop.... I absolutely love this plane, it does everything you can throw at it. My buddy has the AW yak , same combo w/ Vess 27B prop. He loves his. I have flown both, I like both, each one has its own quirks as any different brand / design will. I personally dont like either scheme very much ,I just live with it. Although I do like the bottom of mine alot, shows up well . The 2 side by side look different as QQ is a pattern pilot and his design reflects that. I think that you will be happy with just about any of the top Manuf. with the best equipment. Good luck.....

You may also want to look into the Extreme Flight Yak. It is going to have a 110" wingspan and the color schemes are pretty sharp. The fuse is also alot larger than the other 35% Yaks out there. I personally love the yellow and black scheme. They should arrive here in the US in about 2 weeks. The Flyin Hawain already has his and it seems to be a great performing plane. As soon as they get here I will do a build thread along with flight reports. Mine is going to be setup with a DA-100 on ES Composite pipes with a Vess 27A or 28A. I will be using JR 8611A's all the way around except the rudder. The rudder will have either one or two JR 8711A. |

Jim, I have exactly the same opinion as you. I love the G4 Yak (no mods needed!) and wonder if anything in real life can come close. The "torque generator" says it's based on a 3W 70cc motor and it seems to fly a lot more "nimbly" than I think a 100cc (ie 35%) plane would fly so I think the size is accurate for a 90" span plane. HOWEVER, the rolls are SO quick and the power is so good (when I punch the throttle, my God, it surely punches through whatever I'm doing RIGHT NOW) I can't believe this represents any actual powered plane in reality. It's like I imagine having a 100cc motor with the weight of a 50cc in a 14 lb plane, despite the listed weight of 26 lbs. I'm very close to buying the AW 75CC Yak QB with a DA 85 cause I think that's the closest I'll ever get to my dream. Here's my fav scheme courtesy of the knife edge swap forums "Grey Dog" Joe

i haven't flown the 100cc or 85cc Yaks. However, I have owned both the AeroWorks 85" and Extreme Flight 88" Yaks. Hands down the EF Yak is lighter and more nimble. However, the AeroWorks Yak did some really fun stuff the EF Yak won't do. It was much easier to flat spin the AW at full throttle inverted. The EF is much more stable in the harrier both upright and inverted. Overall, the EF feels much lighter and IS lighter. The Yak on G4 is about the only thing I fly. (I do like to DS slope soar and front side slope the Mitchell B25 deadstick inverted.) The G4 Yak is pretty close to the EF Yak for responsiveness. I fly a DA50 with MTW pipe and Vess 23A or B prop depending on how I feel that day. The punch out with the 23A is very close to the simulator response. My buddy has the QQ Yak Gen I and really doesn't fly it much since he got the EF 88" Yak. He and I are both on the list for the 110" Yak. I think he was the first person to ask Chris HInson to be on the list. Chris was flying with us at Joe Nall and told us he had just heard the 104" prototype had arrived at the shop and he hadn't even seen it. My buddy said, put him down for one, sight unseen by even the man himself. Anyway, I ramble. Short note: The G4 Yak is pretty close to the EF Yak. The EF Yak in reality is more maneuverable in a number of aspects, particulary pitching maneuvers. I prefer the EF Yak to the AeroWorks Yak which is still a very good plane. If the 110" Yak is as good as the 88" Yak it will be outstanding. Doug |

Thanks for mentioning the SD Yak. I like that orange / B&w checker color scheme also. I'm fairly sold on the DA 85. Unfortunately I don't think Extreme Flight has a plane for it to compete with AW and TBM. Looks like it's going to be a fun summer in any case ![]() One more topic for Yak experts here: muffler options: If noise isn't a concern (I kinda like the growl, and we don't have restrictions at our local fields), is there any benefit to Cans? It seems like they weigh more, and add complexity to the install. I'd really like to keep it simple with either the stock or Jtec Pitts muffler unless they really foul the appearance of the cowls on these fine birds. I want power and sound and lightness and good looks in that order. Opinions?

Wow! A DA 85 on an airframe this large and draggy. I was concerned my 3W106 might not be up to the task. The DA85 must be one h*ll of a powerhouse! I'll talk to Chris at Toledo. |
