How would an "Inadequate Servo" be responsible for a wing coming apart...??? Scott Last edited by Scott Gerber; 04-07-2008 at 02:15 PM. |

Sonito, really sucks to see those pictures. It's never pleasant to see our machines go down. Did the wing just randomly blow up or was it fluttering before it happened? I had a 35% Aeroworks 260 that lasted me 2 good years of ABUSE.

What move caused the wing to pull apart? (wall, blender - ect?) It should still handle "3D" moves - but just curious what did it. I give my 50cc plane heck every flight and it's still going almost 2 years later (Not the same brand plane though)

That's a bummer, sorry to see you lost your plane. So are they (Aeroworks) saying your ailerons fluttered causing the wing to come apart? It does appear in the pics that there was some violent vibration that oblonged the wingtube hole and ripped the ribs out. You can still see where part of the ribs are still glued to the wing. I'm not familiar with those servos but I'm assuming you disassembled them and checked the geartrain and tested them otherwise?

I had a 35% QB Yak. After 3 months of flying the left wing blew off the plane doing a snap. Probably wouldnt mention it but all I got for my $1000 loss was a $350 credit. Better then nothing I guess since the warranty expired. We could see the problem when we picked up the wreckage. There was not enough glue on the spar. Thought for sure they would just send me a new plane since my equitment got ruined by a deffective plane. Not a sufficiant refund but what could I say? Havent spent one second bashing or even telling much of anyone. But since you mentioned it I thougth I might mention my experience. Other then that they seem like really nice people. |

Judging by the shiny wear on the wing tube. And the oblong hole in the wing alignment dowel hole, I would say the wing fit was very loose at the time of failure. Perhaps a wing hold down bolt came out or the wing phoenolic tube was sanded out too much. Neither are Aeroworks fault. Pretty sure some major flutter occured but there is no apparent controll surface flutter shown in the pic's as the aileron is hidden by the covering. If that hole for the wing dowel was that shape before flying the plane then please explain how it got that way. If you have a pic showing the front dowel hole that would help discover the cause.

Hobbico's web site says the servos are for .20 to 1.20 size planes. This is according to their site: "Great for gas or electric .20-1.20 size airplanes". You did not say what happened before the event, flutter, hard landings, etc. But I would not use these servos in a 50cc plane. Not saying the servos caused the problem. Just that I would not use them on this size plane. There are hundreds of these planes out there. I have not heard about any problems with the quality. Although there can be one off issues with any mfg and plane. Really sorry for your loss. Last edited by DR10044; 04-07-2008 at 12:53 PM. |

No there was no flutter I was doing an 8 point roll straight and level and on the 5th point we all just gasped as the wing ripped out I had just done some Red Bull racing type high speed fly bys and no flutter whatso ever and I had HD linkages, this plane was just poor workmanship and the lame excse from Aeroworks just made it worse. The Hobico CS 150 digital servo is a good servo I use them on my 40%er and for a year now and no problems this is just bad PR for a company that has spent alot on Advertisement for the QB series and they Aeroworks didnt even have the courtesy to tell me from the get go that they were not resposible for poor workmanship and to jerk me around for a week was unfortunate but still it was done I told them I dont live off this sport and I just let them know that the ball was in their court and see what happened later like I mentioned before I would have rather them tell me "too bad so sad" and drive on these planes will fall apart we have other Yaks QQ and they dont fall apart and are rung out hard this one explodes on an straight and level manuever go figure. There was no flutter at all. BTW it was the first day out with the plane. I have vented |
