Default Holy Cap! - Great Planes 27% Cap 232

Saturday was maiden day for my new Cap. All I can say is OMG! This thing is a rocket ship. I wanted an inexpensive 50cc sized plane to huck around with and I think this one is a winner . My plan was to get it ready for Joe Nall, and after Saturdays fun I think it is.

The plane is very well made, and the covering is excellent. The build went pretty smooth with no problems. The only thing I did different was move the gas tank further back to get it closer to the CG. I also tinted the canopy. I'm running JR sport 126MG's on the ailerons and elevator, an 8611a on rudder (way overkill but I had it already), and a high speed low torque hitec on the throttle (again I already had it). I'm running the AR7000 receiver with two 6v 1450 mah nimh's and one 4.8v 1450mah battery on the ignition. I'm also running the smartfly optical ignition kill.

I chose the DL50 for this plane for two reasons, one was price and the other was curiosity. I've owned a DA50 in the past and I can say that they are both very similar. There are numerous threads on the engines so I don't wanna hear any DA vs DL arguments here! The DL was easy to start, ran strong, and never gave any trouble. I ran it a little rich in the video which was the second flight. I put seven flights on the plane and by the last flight I had the engine dialed in pretty good and started to really wring out the plane.

The plane is awesome with a 50cc on the front. I have it balanced right on the CG and it seems very happy there. The power is phenomenal, uplines accelerate, and yet its slow speed characteristics are really good. I couldn't get it to stall with the strong winds, this thing is definately a floater. Landings are a breeze, it would roll out for about 6 feet and stop in front of me every time. I was a little concerned that it may be snap happy (never had a cap before but heard stories), but I couldn't see any strange tendencies with this plane at all. Speaking of snaps, when you want it to it will do fantastic snaps. Rolls are very axial too. I did some rolling harriers which were real easy on this plane, hovering is almost too easy! I can't wait to get some more flights in on the engine so I can start letting it rip (figuratively, not prop sound). Harriers were great, very little wing rock indeed. I almost harrier landed it from about a hundred feet up, but transitioned into a hover at the last minute when I realized what I was doing!

I think the best way to describe this setup is "giant foamy". It feels light, but tracks like its on a rail and handles wind really well. I wasn't expecting this plane to fly as well as it does, I was very surprised out how it performed - much to my delight! This is going to be a fun plane! Much thanks to Jeff a.k.a. "Unbalanced" for keeping the motivation going and helping me git'r'done.

Cya'all at the 'Nall!

Video! Here is a link to the video, this was the second flight.

*edit* I forgot to mention that we popped it onto the postal scale and it weighed in, ready to fly, at 13.11lbs

Looks good but remember it is a cap, it will snap at the wrong time every time. I have flown many cap's including the hanger 9. Where you have to watch for the snap is at low air speeds and full up low rate elevator. I have also seen them snap with partial or medium elevator at lower air speeds. All in all the cap is a great ship and you will have a blast with all the power of the 50 on front. The cap is one of the easiest planes to learn harriers with as all you have to usually do is pin the elevators and drive around with power and rudder. Try a few waterfalls with it also. They will usually do three to four rotation before starting to fall. They will also do very tight blenders and usually very violent.
Have fun with your new throw around plane.

That's total bullsh!t.. A well-built/equipped Cap is no more snap-prone than any airframe.. Having owned several Caps from 27-40%, I can tell that none of them are any more snap-prone than ANY airframe.. I can make my Yaks, Extras and Edges ALL snap with the wrong amount of elevator at the wrong time.. Snaps occur when you half-ass yank on the elevator with too much speed or your rates are setup incorrectly.. There's an area of travel, different on every airframe, that is too high for a 'low rate' and not high enough to be a 3D rate. When you don't abruptly stall the wing, like with a full 3D rate, you risk snapping out.

Here now don't get mean. There is no need for that. I was just stating my experiences with the cap airframe.
Just so there are no more bad inputs on this tread I will back out and let the cap expert tell it all.
