I am in a pickle here. I am either going to get a one of these in th 37.5 or 40% scale. I will use this plane for imac for the rest of the season but after this season I will use the plane as a freestyle plane. What would be the best choice??? Theres a similar thread to this one but with different ideas. |

Hey whats up, I had that sd yak in basic down in NM. did you lose your 260? Anyways I have a 260 50cc, and my yak just seems more fun to fly, and has sweet downline breaking which I am learning is important. 871

I have been flying a SDyak 35%,, I have been flying it in IMAC for this year, but the yak tends to hunt for a line if you understand what I mean, it is almost like it doesn't cut through the air like a Extra,, the SD yak is one of the most forgiving 3d planes I have ever flown and I intend to fly it for 3d from now one, but I am going this week to pic up a Carden 330 40% extra,, , for IMAC, I am in the sportsman class now and the YAk just wont compete,, not the SD anyhow with the thick airfoiled wing, which is great for lift for 3d , but sucks for tracking in IMAC<, , and as for the downline braking that is a myth in my opinion, it is all relative ,, , at the last IMAC I went to,, there were about 14 people in the Advanced and Unlimited class, and 2 of the guys were flying Yaks, and the rest Extra 260's or 330's and the yaks didn't place, I know it could be pilot error, but just looking at the yaks tracking during the competition they just didn't look like they were on rails like the extras,, anyway I am getting a good deal on this Carden I am buying, do I would definitly going to get the SD extra 260 40%,,, anyway just my opinions,, hope they help

I have been flying the 37.5% for close to a year now. It is a great 3D ship and very forgiving. As far as IMAC I have not been able to make any events this year. My thoughts on this plane for IMAC flying are good. My plane tracks fine and will fly very constant speeds. I think that if you are flying anything below the advanced class you will be fine with proper setup. It does loose alot of speed in the snaps so throttle is your friend. Hope this helps. |

My buddy just won a sportsman class with 10 contestants this past weekend, his 35% SD Yak flew the best lines of any plane in the 3 lower classes. The plane has the capabilities and limitations of the pilot. Extras just look prettier.

I have been flying the 40% 260 from SD for just a little over a year now. Prior to this I had 3 SD 35% Yaks. I am just a average pilot, but I love the airframe. The yak I don't care what brand does not seem to lock in like a well built extra. My 260 might not be a Comp arf quality airframe, but it is damn nice still. Specially for the price you can get it now. If you added carbon tubes, and gear this plane will fall under 38lbs and maybe closer to 37lbs. The plane flys on rails, and seems to float forever on the huge wings. 3D performance is great also, but not quite the same as a yak. The yak is more forgiving and docile in high alpha manuevers, but just lacks that speed I like. The extra's flight envelope is just alot larger if you ask me. I must admit I did order another 37.5% TT from my local hobby shop last week. I wanted to have a good all out 3d airframe and the SD yaks are awesome for that. I will keep my extra because it is just fun to fly and not to many of them around.

Gee, I dont know then, it sounds like the extra is quite a plane. I just never see any so I thought it was not that great. Does the extra have addequete power with a 150. Does it fly really fast and how much faster than the yak??? What were the main differences in precision you noticed.

The 35% yak seemed to always be hunting for a line when the wind conditions were anything but calm. The extra doesn't seem to mind it. Some will probally say I am crazy, but I had 3 SD yaks and 2 others have them at my field now. I have had the 50cc and it did it a little to, but the wing loading was higher so not as pronounced. I think the huge profile of the fuselage causes it. I am not sure on the difference on the top speed, but it's quite a difference. The plane doesn't have to be maxed out to fly good. It feels great at all throttle settings. The 150 is plenty for the airframe as well. Just get carbon gear in it and you will love it! You really can't go wrong with the both of them. Flip a coin!

Mike, you crashed the Compy? What happened? For IMAC, of your choices, I'd go with the Extra. Of course you know I am going to ask, why not the Aeroworks Extra? Why not any other choices? If it is price, then at least take a look at what Jtec has to offer. I think they are in the "affordable" price range, and are excellent fliers. I pondered their 300 myself... | ||||||||||||||||||
