Default H9 1/4 scale J-3 Piper Cub

Has anyone flown the Hangar 9 1/4 scale piper cub arf or PNP? I am considering getting one just to mess around with on busy days at the field. How do you think the power is with a G-20 ei?

I have the plug and play and have about 60 flights on it. The G20 is a great engine and powers it fine, doesn't have great vertical but flies very scale.

I've heard that the ignition likes to drink quite a lot of electrons from the battery, any comments on that part? What battery are you using and how much duration do you get?

I have the H9 1/4scale Cub with the Zenoah 26 ei. I enjoy this beautiful Sunday flyer everytime I take it out. Only on really windy days do I find it quite a handfull, as expected. I instal Du-bro 6" big wheels on mine, being airfilled these wheels are very forgiving of my sometime, not so nice landings. I've only flown off grass and some fields I fly at are pretty rough, stock wheels I found to be too small. Besides I really don't like those Hangar 9 stock wheels. Maybe oneday I'll fly this off floats, I think that would be a real treat. Nice Job Hangar 9.

Be very careful here. I have this plane, and with a "full" charge on the factory installed 5-cell NMh I got two flights of 20-25 mintues each. The ignition battery cutoff the iginition while on approach (voltage too low) during the second landing. No biggie, the glide characteristics (glide ratio) are fantastic with this plane. It was just a shocker. At first, I thought the motor went south.

To be clear, you will get about 70-minutes on a full charge BUT I had to adjust the engine prior to the first flight, etc...so that ate up some available flight time, too.

This is a plane that would definitely benefit from a Lilo conversion...

Have fun! It is a very well mannered plane. My only complaint is that once you trim the rudder for true flight, then adjust the rudder clevis once on the ground so you can remove the radio trim, your plane will pull to one side during takeoff's. Just be aware of this. I guess I could just use radio trim and be done with it (??)
