Being that nothing is goin on....I though I would ad to the spam...

I love the quad engines, but I have had mixed reviews of them...
Seems that the 3W 220is much heavier than what was advertised....LIKE 18-20 lbs+
NO joke! so that leavs the DA 200 or the Mintor 220 (not even sure if that isn't too heavy)
Will have to see, after some guys start flying with it...

The 167" WS Extra that aeroTech is bringing out would be a great fit for a
quad 220 or even a 200.... would be enough to power it.... Talk about FOAM power...
Even a heavy 3W 220 with cans would be awsome....

Only issue would be that it isn't a ARF.

Where did you hear that the 3W 220 is 18+lbs? Keep in mind that 3W posts their weight including ignition and sometimes mufflers as well, DA does not. After everything is said and done with an installation of a DA 200 and 3W 212 or 220 (220 is just a bored out 212) there is only about a 1 pound difference between the engines... The engines comes in somewhere between 12 and 13 lbs including ignition and mufflers.

I will be running a 3W 212 on stock mufflers in my 123" Extra for the up and coming season. I am going to weigh my equipment to get exact numbers if anybody cares... and post it soon.

A DA 170 will fly the nutz off of a 38 pound Carden. I think a DA 200 would be complete overkill on a 40% airframe. Also the price jump from a DA 170 to a DA 200 is huge.

You can never have "to much" power, but the weight........

For IMAC no problem, and the less vibrations speaks for it, too.

IS anybody able to measure if the 200 would fit under the cowl of the extra ?
-and how much the motor mount has to be shortened ?

maybe some questions to the Imac pilots who have flown this plane already :

- how much mixing in knife Edge (Imac CG) ?
- how much mix in vertical down on throttle low ? -approx. 2 percent elv down to go down straight correctly ?
- how does it snap ?
- how does it perfom on different wind conditions from low to high and back-wind if you wnat to go into a spin ?

-how does the fuselage "carry" in knife edge and rolling circles or loops ?

-the airfoil of the rudder is very thick -how does it perform /track if you come down from a turn -does it shake the tail much (if you dont do anything) -or if youre flying in knife Edge and give full elevator down -what does it do then ?

I know, a lot of questions, but i would be glad if someone(competiton pilots) could answer it to me.

Thanks,

Chris

cyco, very few have flown the production version for IMAC. However, on here PM exeter acres (Curtis at Extreme Flight) as he flew it this past summer at the US IMAC nationals. He would know what was in the programming.

A 40% Carden Extra 300 has a 118" wingspan. The EF Extra 300 is 123". So the EF Extra is closer in size to the 126" Carden 300 that calls for a 170cc to 210cc size engine. And It will most likely come in at the 41 to 42 pound range, not 38 pounds. It's a BIG plane! I think that you could go with a 150, 170 or 200 on it with excellent results.
