Hangar 9 100" Super Cub ARF

Hi Guys,

I have had one of the above sitting around the shop for 3-4 years. Got it from Chief Aircraft for ~$200 when H9 closed them out. Just got around to putting it together with G26 magneto engine. I'm up to the point of locating the receiver and dual batteries - 1200 mA, 6V NIMH - with a switch for each.

For those of you who've built this model: is it critical where I locate the batts and Rx, considering getting it balanced without adding ballast, or is the thing too big to care about those small components? Or, to put it another way, how'd you rig yours?

Install every thing you have except your battery/batteries then plug the wings in and set up the plane like your going to fly it minus fuel and battery/s. Set it up to balance it then sit the batteries on top of the model then move forward or backwards until the model balances and then you will know where the batts need to be installed.

I really didn't need instructions on how to balance the model. I've been building models for quite a few years. I suppose you meant well, thanks.

As it turns out, the weight of the battery(s) was immaterial to the balance of the model unless I put one that weighs twice as much in the tail. It took 8 oz of weight located in the fuse just in front of the tail wheel mount to bring the model into balance. I could have done it with a couple of 6 volt NiMH 's in the tail but I didn't feel like building the wiring harness, so didn't bother.

On the maiden, the model jumped off the grass with a minimal take off roll at full power. On a later flight, half throttle got me a scale "Cub" TO, no sweat. The G26 is more than enough power for sure.

I asked for specific info on where THOSE WHO HAD EXPERIENCE WITH THIS MODEL located the battery and if it made much difference. His reply was essentially "how to balance a model." Not what I needed but, as I wrote, he meant well and I thanked him. No apology was necessary and I said so. I also accepted it since it was offered. I also posted what I found out was needed to balance the model.

You on the other hand are just stirring the pot. I didn't ask you for anything.

Hey Charlie - what size fuel tank came "stock" in these? I managed to score a used one this weekend for $50 - no fuel tank. Going to run my Zenoah G26/Mag motor in it - i was thinking 16-20 oz of gas would work out fine.
