Default Re: 37.5% Yak baffling

after running my Yak for a couple of month with No baffling (only running 137-142 temps) I thought that I would try it.No Change at all,so don't know if it is worth the time . Even on my 35%er I do not run baffling and run temps in the 140 range.

Nick,

Did you get the muffler ok? Let me know how the plane flies once you get it in the air.

Yea I got the mufflers. Thanks again. Going to fly it sunday morning if all goes well. All I have left to do is setup my rates in the radio, and get the engine tuned.

Nick.... I don't have the same Yak you have, since I fly the 3m Yak 55sp from CompArf..... However, I did find that I had to baffle the DA150 I had & then switched to the DA 170 which is now in place. I found that my head temperatures cut down from over 175 degrees to 151-152 during the summer months up to now. During the Spring earlier this year, I was reading 20 degrees lower. Here is a link to the baffle that I put in...I had to cut just a little off when the 150 was replaced with the 170.

Nick, I'm not sure if this will help but here's what I did on a new install on a 37.5% 3W Yak with a 3W 170. If you need more photos of explination, just let me know.

i absolutely had to baffle my compy yak 2.6m!!!!! i run a competition series 3w106 in her on stock muffs and i was getting temps in the mid-upper 200's!!!!! i built a complete head baffling system and i now don't get over 150-170's! it was easy to construct out of ply wood. i just cut a cirlce a little larger than the diameter of the cowl opening and cut the prop hub opening and then 2 rectangles out on either side for the heads. i then built "boxes" going back to, and over and under the heads so any and all air had to pass directly over the heads and cool them. i then sanded and painted black and it looks as if it came that way!!!!!!!!! easy to do and IMHO very important!

What kind of headers are you using that enable you to run pipes inside the fuse? I'm installing a ZDZ 160 on my 37.5% and the shallowest headers are still too high to get the cannisters inside the fuse.
Are there some headers available that are shallow enough to line up with the cans or did you go to flex tubing?
Thanks,
Steve

Baffling also slows the plane down on downlines (a key flying feature of this design). I made mine look scale. I have a full set of contruction photos is you guys want me to post em'. It's all balsa, been on the plane for some 50 flights, no problems at all.
