Default AW 50cc Extra 260 - pulled out aileron hinges

Hi,

Just wanted to get some input from you guys - I was getting ready to fly my 50cc Extra 260 today and while doing my pre-flight checks, tugged the ailerons a little. To my shock the left aileron was only held on by ONE hinge pin! Boy, sure am glad I thought to check it before flying. This is the second season with the plane and absolutely love it otherwise!

Anyone else had issues with the pre-glued aileron hinges? The plane has not had even a harsh landing, let alone anything more serious. I'm gonna be giving AW a call on Monday to see if I could get a new wing panel ordered.

Wanted to give people a heads-up in case they're flying the AW 50cc Extra 260!

if you can i suggest that you pull them all out on that wing and re-hinge it.Not sure if you are up for the work but i think it would be very worth it.I suggest useing the round Robart hinges they work great if you are up for it

That's what I was planning on doing but my work leaves me very little time to work on the plane It has the Robart-style hinges on it already - if they had ALL come out I'd probably just go ahead and re-hinge but the one that's still in there is gonna be a b*tch!

Just cut it, re-cut/grind it flush with surface and wing panel.

Drill new holes over 1/2 inch and install new hinge. Reglue the rest.

I just to a syringe and juced thin ca first, then the 100x from merc, hit it with kicker, no probs. I used the syringe to get the bottom of the loose pin too. Cant tell I poked some tiny holes, and they are good to go! 871

You can use a Dremel with a cutting wheel to cut the hinge at the hinge line and then you can use the soldering pencil method to remove the hinge, a soldering pencil will melt the hinge out of the hole and then a drill bit will clean it up. Get yourself a robart hinge to replace it with and then glue everything back in place. Sound like a lot of work but it's really not.
