A friend built the 103 inch Magic Hand Yak a few weeeks ago. Heavy , heavy, oh and yes, heavy. The elevators weigh more than a pound and half each. With a new style DA-100 it needed more than 2 pounds of my lead ignots from my bullet casting hobby to balance. The gear was so weak....(or the plane so heavy), that the gear spread put ala, EF 88" Yak style , on the first landing. He had hell also, no manual at all. But , some would say, that with this size ARF, you should be able to do it with out one, otherwise you are in over your head to begin with. I disagree. No CG info, although easily calculable, and no pull pull geometery stated, and no control horn holes predrilled made for some aggravation. Maybe your engine choice will help with the balance issue, but a light motor is probably going to require weight up front. If the 118 is anything like the 103. The upside is that it flies very well, heavy biotch that she is, I do believe he crossed the rudder cables, and beefed the tray. the main gripe about the elevators is the aluminum anti-rotation pins, lose those and convert to CF tube for those and it lightens up the tail a bit. Nice plane , but the price reflects some pain back at you. |

If you've never done a pull/pull. It is not that hard, for that size bird mount your rudder control horns and mount your rudder servo with arm and use a straight edge to get an idea of where the cable will exit the fuse in the rear. Make sure to check both planes (verticle and horizontal). I beleive you will be crossing the cables front right to rear left. Once you have done thise feed the cable through the hole and line it up with your control horns (rudder and servo) and cut the fuse to releave any binding. You should end up with a 1" to 1 1/2" slot for the cable to travel in. Hope this helps. If this is your first pull-pull set up I would get some help setting the plane up. Almost all aerobatic planes this size are pull-pull. Jeff |

Lill Will, Here are a few shots of the pull pull system on my Hagic Hand Yak 118". As you can see I crossed the cables and added a short piece of nyrod to keep the wire from rubbing. The exit is in the fuse under the covering already. If you are ganging servos the servo mounts are in the fuse already and you would come off the last servo and do the same as I have here. The planes comes with a Aluiminum arm that is offset the correct amount. You can either bolt it to a plastic wheel or Bolt it to a Uni-Hub.

I just maidened a Magic Hand 103 Yak on Friday last and the plane is an excellent flyer, mine came in at 27lb with a DL-100 up front, no extra weight added for balance, it balances on the front of the wing tube, I did some extra beefing to the motor box(additional weight of 3-4oz) to make sure that I did not have any vibration related problems. The only item behind the wing tube is the rudder servo(8711) and it is in the hole closest to the wing tube. After 22 flights since maiden I have no teething problems, the more I fly the plane the more I like it. If you are bending the gear you need to spend some time sorting out the landing sequence needed to put these big planes down. They are too heavy to pound on to the runway, the aluminum does take the shock and will flex and bend and save the bottom of the fuse from destruction.
