Default My Toledo Yak

Hello All,

Just posting a few pics of my new Carden Yak that was entered in the recent Toledo Show. The plane was built and entered under the builder's name for his credit, which was rightly due. He totally out did himself.

The plane's scheme was taken from the full scale "Russian Thunder" Yak of the late Eric Beard. Unfortunately, he was killed in a small plane crash not related to this plane earlier in this year.

The plane is all Monokote including all the graphics, which he hand cut. One pic is of the template that he makes for the process. The cowling and wheel pants are scratch built with balsa wood. The plane has a DA 150 with KS cans and Futaba radio gear. Also has a PowerBox unit for power distrabution.

I do not know the weight as of yet, but hope to find that out soon. Just a few final prep items to go through and final programing of the radio. Hope it is not long before it gets into the air. At the show, I heard may promising reports from guys already flying the Carden Yak, so I can't wait.

Enjoy the pics. I have more of the inside setup and construction, so if there is any interest, let me know, and I will post more.

By the way, the plane placed 1st on the "Best Monokote" catagory.

That is awesome! I can't believe the eagle graphic is cut out of monokote. Who built it?

Thanks Sleepy for the comments. I was extremely happy with the way it turned out. Hell, I was down right worried setting up all the engine and radio gear in the plane the weekend before the show. Didn't want to hurt it in any way.

The plane was built by Mark Boguszewski. He has built me several planes and Toledo show winners in the past. This guy can build. It is a shame that he can only build 2 models a year due to work. He does not work through the winter and that is when he does his building.

What a great job ! I appreciate the effort that went into that cowl alone ! That's the way we did it in the good old day's Before glass ! Can't wait to see you and your new Yak at Nall.

Thanks for sharing

Sleepy, Thanks. Boy, nothing gets by you ? That is what I like...Some one that pays attention to details, even if they are not the main subject.
The cowling was a project. There are over 150 pices to make it and not one bit of filler. The guy is a true artist at his work.

Chris, Sorry I left in such a hurry. I had to get back to go to work the night. What a night after a weekend in Toledo ?? Thanks.

Bigg D, Thanks for the comments. Yes, the guy is a special builder. I appreciate his craftsmanship very much and he loves how I fly and treat his work to show them. Hope to bring the plane to Nall.

Joe, Incredible airplane. Had no idea it was yours. That cowl is incredible. I do have a question though. Is there an advantage to making it that way? Just curious.

Hi Joe,

I took a lot of pictures of your yak at toledo and every time I went back for pictures I found more and more things I liked about it. It truly is a work of art.

Hey, how far are you from MT. Pocono, PA. May be we can go flying one day, I just finished my carden 260 and love it so far but I haven't seen their yak fly yet.

Albert

Jeeum,
The builder prefers to do the cowling and wheel pants out of balsa for the only reason but to be able to use Monokote which he is so good at using. He does not paint and likes the idea of putting forth the extra effort for a bonus score when the judges consider the plane overall. Anymore, the Aerobatic planes are all done so good, that something has to be done to put you ahead in the judges mind. That is why he also cut all the graphics out of Monokote also.
By the way, I have not weighed the cowling as of yet, but when he has done my Extra cowlings out of wood in the past, they weigh in all finished with covering Less then the fiberglass cowling with the ply parts and glass work before they are put together.
He is a craftsman.
