Thats one nice thing about the sundowner. Its not a floater and drops in fast. Totally different landing than a trainer but you have to do it just right. keeps you on your toes. I prob wont know what to do with a floater again.

The pau edge 540 has the best gear mounting system and can take a modest amount of abuse. Also the TT SD TOC Yak,s 260,s that thunder tiger Ace Hobbies sell. Not fool proof, but the best most robust system of angle aluminum bolted to sides of engine box where it extends into fuse to the wing tube. ONE ON EACH SIDE. And the landing gear attachs to these angles. NOT SO FOR AREOWORKS AND AIRWILD SUHKOI> BOth of which are great planes, just wouldn,t recommend them to a novice pilot, for that reason.

I had an AW 75cc Extra 260 and it had very robust landing gear plate. My first big gasser. Was really easy to land!! Like it has auto pilot. I had radio failure about 200ft up. The plane came down at a 45 degree angle and landed on the nose and landing gear. The whole motor box with landing gear was still in one pc. The plane was a total loss but we managed to grab the wing tips and haul it to the pits in one pc. It was amazing, the very stout alum gear was twisted and bent but still bolted solid to the motor box!!

I opted for the 75-85cc size. Doesn't cost much more than a 50cc plane. Carries the weight of a cannister exh and extra batteries better(for my preferences). It's nearly the size of a 100cc plane. Mine has one servo per surface and only one exhaust to buy. I now have 2 40%ers and 2 75cc planes. I figured if I was going twin I may as well go all out.

I hear the PAU Edge is awesome with a DA85. That motor is amazing on a tuned pipe. I have one on a can and going to go with a tuned pipe on my second DA-85.

And thanks sweetpea Im gonna look into some of that stuff. And as far as DA's not liking 6V's do you just use a large capacity 4.8 for ignition?[/quote]

I have always run 6v batts on my DA-100's with no problems. Am I missing something?

Also, the guys at PAU rock. Best around. Great support.

The quote was mis-read. Sweatpea said they don't like over 6v and that is true. He was just saying not to run a li-po or li ion straight without a 6v regulator. It will fry the ignition. Nothing OVER 6v on DA ignitions.

I am not sure what "wylieruneyjr" was talking about concerning the AreoWorks planes?? Here is a picture of what was left of my plane after a radio failure about 200 feet up. The plane went in about 45 degrees, striking the gear and nose first. The motor box was the only part I brought home.

This plane has a very tough front end and can handel some rough landings and the power/vibrations from the single cylinder 85cc engine. I ordered another AW the day after the crash!!

He is right. I have a Aeroworks Yak 54 100cc and it almost has to come to a complete stop before you turn the plane or you will bend the landing gear and damage the fuse. It looks really nice but a very poor design. I am sure it is why the 150cc yak is differnent in the landing gear area.

I am building the AW 85cc Yak now it has totally different gear than the Extra 260. The Yak has a 2pc gear that bolts on vertical to the side of the motor box. The Extra has a 1pc that bolts to the bottom of the motor box.
The AW Extra is solid though.

And that is the way the 150cc model is. I wish the 100cc was the same.

Sorry if I misled anybody, In the the pic of the crashed AW 75cc , its clear that it has the same metal aluminum angle attachment as the PAU or TT SD TOC planes, However not all AW,s have the same system. Point is the 36% PAU does have a robust system. I just ordered one myself. I crashed a Hanger9 SU 31 that had the same system of gear mounts and The crash photos looked the same with gear still attached to engine box, which was completely knocked out. You can see the Hanger9 sukhoi SU-31 fly at www.carolinaskydancers.com
