Default Thunder Tiger 40% 260 "Any Thoughts"

I have been looking at the TT Extra 260 in 40% but couldn't find any feedback on this plane so I thought I would post a few questions,
1. How is the fit and finish.
2. Is it constructed heavy or light.
3. How does it hold up over time, or does it come apart.
4. How does it fly in comparision to others AW, QQ, Comp-Arf.

It's the exact same plane as the SD 260... there are a couple of threads on this plane within this site. I have one that I am working on now. I didn't have one wrinkle when I pulled it out of the box, and after a year of sitting, it still looks the same way, in other words the finish is great. As far as flying people who I've talked to said that they love the plane and that I won't be dissappointed with it's performance. I'm hoping to finish mine up within the next couple of months, just no time to work on the thing. Pick one up, you won't be dissappointed.
Later.
Shawn

Fit and finish is as nice as anyone elses arf's on mine. The plane is large, but the weight on most is around 37-39lbs. My plane is almost 2 years old and comes in around 38.5lbs. Not bad for 122" span! I still have stock tubes. Like I said it's almost 2 years old, but you would never know it. I can pull it out and it looks like the day I purchased it still. I love this plane, and would own another in a second if need be. It is flys on rails, and 3d's great. I think this plane has been a sleeper and no one was willing to bite the bullet. Now the word is starting to get out on it. You really should check one out!

I'm really looking at the 260 hard right now, does yours have the counter weighted elevators? I've seen a post that they may be coming out with that soon, I would like to have that on mine, I have looked at Cheif aircrafts website but I can't find a manual to see if the new one's have the counter weighted elevators, do you know anything about that? I'm also looking at the TT 40% Yak but on cheifs website it says its 52lbs just wondering if thats a misprint?

The plane is hard to beat for the price. I never flew one but my friend did and he said it 3D's awesome but it didn't track very well for IMAC. Of course, that was most likely due to the 3D setup - the owner of the plane doesn't do precision flying.
I am sure that it can be made to fly precision very well with the right setup.
If you get the "HP" version(I think they are all the HP version now) you will get prehinged, premounted canopy, etc.

I spoke with Rocky yesterday and he indicated that they do not have counterbalanced stabs in any of the airplanes onshore right now. He said they will be receiving a batch of stabs soon Dec/Jan or so. I imagine you will need to call him to get a set. I also asked about the manual, he said they are working on one and it will be posted in .pdf when completed.

Did he say when the new planes would arrive with the counterbalanced elevators? Or are they just shipping elevators to replace the old non counterbalanced units. Do you know how much these planes weigh RTF as I'm concerned about the 52 lbs on Cheif Aircrafts website, is this correct or a misprint, any other info would be helpful.

He only told me that they were getting them shipped in a large batch, did not say if he was swapping them out or getting new planes in with them included. I think the 52lbs is on the Yak, the Extra's should be 40lbs or under. Although I have not seen one in person the Yak is much bigger than the Extra.

Ok the 40% Yak at 129" wingspan can weigh 52lbs depending on engine, The Extra 260 40% is 122" wingspan I have seen them at 38lbs (Kim3D) Da150 2 servo in wing one in elevator and 41lbs (Rabbit Ron) 3w 170 3 servos in wings two in stabs and the both fly very well. As for Imac I feel the setup is the biggest key. I have done some with mine with rates down and it was good but I am not a Imac guy .The Extra 260s with counter balance stabs are not here yet they will be here late Jan early feb. We will be getting some so you can aquire them at a later date.

In my own opnion they fly as well as some of the airframe that are several hundreds and even thousands more than ours. I am glad to see the intrest here if you all have questions throw the out as I will kjeep tabs on this thread.

Best Regards
Rocky

I am in the process of narrowing down which plane would best suit my needs maybe with some informed information you can help with my decision. First my factor will be a Blue thunder scheme, I've seen on your website that they are available in the 37.5% and 40% versions which are the two that I am debating upon at the present, and then throw in the Blue 40% 260 in the mix. And here's where things get confusing for me. After looking at your website l click on the 40% Yak in #5 which should be the Blue version but it shows a Red version, Is this a mistake our can I really get the Blue version in the 40%? I am assuming this can be obtained due to the 37.5% version being the #5 blue also. What size engine would you recommend for the 40%?

I've got one. It's only got 12 flights on it, so far, but it seems to be pretty solid.

Until this point I had a DA-150 w/muffs on it, but I got a DA-170 w/muffs yesterday, so we'll be giving that a try tomorrow.
