I am building a 33% edge 540 and wanting to know about the GT80 engine . is it enough power ? will it fly ok with this combo ? will it be way nose heavey? I am wanting to go more for a scale look and want to keep everythign in the cowl . I was wanting to go with the DA 85 but it sticks way out the bottom . the Manual says to use this combo but I dont realy trust what I see in a sales bill . ans I can not find a video with someone flying this set up on the internet . any help would be great . thank you , Jason |

Nice Edge Jason. Not sure whether this is going to help you, but I usually prefer to receive more info than less..... even if it is half applicable... I am currently building a Lanier Laser 200 33%, wingspan 2,44m, suggestion from the manual is a ZG62 or similar. When gathering info for this plane, I found these links: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_7622912/tm.htm In post number 6 from Yukon Bob you will find that he had the best results with the GT80 on the Lanier Laser. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=514018 with a nice video, flying great with a 3W75us and in this thread: 1/3 scale lanier laser 200 a lot of people running a 75-80cc as well. In post #6 Fearless Flyer says he can hover his Laser with 3W75iUS at less than 1/2 throttle with a 26x10 menz prop. and this one: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_3502508/tm.htm hovers at just half throttle with a ZDZ80 I know this is a different plane, but since an Edge is a newer model, I would expect it to be lighter than the Lanier Laser 200, so you should have plenty of power. I am still in the rebuilding phase of my Laser (which had a couple of owners before me) and based upon the threads above I decided to go for the GT-80, found one that later appeared to be a ZG-74, but I will try this engine on the plane. Did you see this review of the H9 33% Edge? http://www.rcuniverse.com/magazine/a...article_id=474 Good luck in your hunt for information! |

I flew mine with a 3W-75i and a 3W-80xi-CS. Both engines had more than adequate power for just anything you wanted to do. The airplane weighed around 24lbs. I am not familiar with the GT-80, but I believe it may be heavier than what I was using. Nice flying plane, enjoy yours.

thank you for the info . back to my first post ,, the way I wrote it one would think that the manual calls for the set up with the DA 85 , IT DOES NOT ..... sorry for the wording . THis is one of H9 edges and calls for the GT80 ., But all the write ups and reviews have the DA 100 on it . I have not seen anyone set up one with a GT80 or seen one fly with a GT80 . I have read write ups before people have done but when they give you free stuff to try and write a report on its hard to say it sucks . I have fallen for this before , this is why I would like feed back from real people like you thanks for the help .,jason |

I guess we will find out how this plane is going to fly. I too will be using the GT80 and I also made the performance changes that is required. I have heard that this motor will perform well however I am sure it wont be like engines with more HP. I also am recovering mine, I like the way the Gt fits in the cowing. I also know you need to get rid of those mufflers that it comes with and install the recomended electronic igition. I heard this is a big help for this engine as I will find out. If it don't work out it will be replace with a ZDZ super 85. which has almost as much power as the DA 100. Good luck and I will check back to see how you made out.

I had a GT-80 on my original H9 Extra 330L, which must have weighed 27 pounds or so. The engine would hover the plane, but very little pull-out. This was on a 24x12 prop; this engine really, really likes high RPM and in my application a 24x10 probably would have been a better choice. The engine was pretty heavy with the magneto and spring starter so an electronic ignition would probably help too.
