I need to know if this thing will pull enough to make this plane IMAC compatible? http://www.lanierrc.com/lrcprivate/r...es/stauds6.htm This will be my first giant scale and also first IMAC so i could use some Ideas. Last edited by Disciple; 04-29-2006 at 02:23 PM. |

It seems like it will be a little under powered becasue my 30% yak54 which has a 87" wingspan has a DA 50 in it. The plane your looking at has a 96" span, and it turns out to be 20-25 pounds, so it might be okay for imac, but you probably wont have to much vertical. I may be totaly wrong so wait for more replies.

Disciple. If you could keep the weight down to around 20lb then it will pull fine. 24lb is getting a little heavey for the 60 but in the lower classes of IMAC it should work ok. A tuned pipe on the 60 would make a big difference. Just remember keep it as light as possible. You will need to learn how to manage your power a bit,ie you may need to get on the gas a bit earlier for your uplines.

I dont think you would be happy with a 3w 60 on it, Lanier wood kits typically build heavy, and for this one I would recommend at least a 75cc for it. If you wanted a tuned pipe, 3w makes a wrap around header I am sure would work for the side carb 3w.

Yeah i've heard that they build heavy......i've got almost the whole fuse done and about to start the wings but yeah if anyone still has ideas plss help........ I'm kinda leaning torwards the tunepipe.....does anyone have one or the website to order one? If not would anyone be willing to trade for a 3w-75 plus cash or would someone want to buy my motor. It only has 2 hour run time and comes with a c&h ignition, smoke pump, smoke muffler, and tanks!

Disciple, A friend of mine won this kit at a fly-in about 3.5 years ago and I ended up helping him build and fly. He stuck a ZDZ 80 up front and pulled it around like no bodies business. Turned out around 24 pounds from what I recall and as prior stated Lanier wood is heavy, also kind of an "old school" kit if you ask me. Doesn't come with any goodies like most of the newer kits, or ARF's. It will be pretty decent for basic IMAC but no 3D machine, if you are looking for that as well. Ailerons are small and the rudder and especially the elevators are very small. Tracked pretty decent, it has been at least 2.5 years since I last flew her and seemed somewhat "snap happy". I think there are better offerings out there, if you already have a 3W60 and are looking for something to fly on that size engine. Cowling material is plastic and is prone to cracking and eventually tearing apart under vibration and is very heavy once painted and glued together with the cowlring, unless they have changed that in their new kit runs. Hope this helps a little

I would sell the 60 and get the new 3w 80, or you can use your 60 in a few offerings. Wildhare has a new 90 cap out that I am sure would fly pretty well, or some of the larger 50cc planes

If your into composites a Comp arf 2.3 with your 60 on a pipe would be quite nice
