Hey Guys, Finally got the yak together and ready for the maiden flight. I decided to go with a Star Wars Boba Fett theme and spent a little time designing the concept with a friend @ Erie Design( custom Graphics shop). I just got through running the motor and equiped with a ZDZ 80, this thing is going to scream........Hope you like it and will let you know how the maiden goes next weekend!!!!!

Thanks Guys.... I have been putting this one off too long as I lost my other 30% last year due to pcm lockout. Hope my redundant system pays off. Hey L4U2, I have the CG set to 7" as I like a slight tail heavy plane. I was concerned about it but all I had to do was move the batts to get her were I need it. Cant wait to try KE spins, hope I dont split the fuse in half with the overpowered 80cc. ![]() This plane is going to be a rock in the sky @ 21 lbs. I may shave a little weight off if needed. I will let you know, hope to get video !!!!

I think that is the most decked out 30% plane I have ever seen!!! It looks the best too, I have the exact same AM plane in the flame scheme, but it aint quite as pretty. Hope it works out alright being that heavy, dont bounce it to hard on landing, mine only has a DA 50 and no smoke, it weight 17-18lb range, and it bends the landing gear every time I land, dont land to hard or you wont have a prop left. Graphtec makes carbon fiber landing gear that is much stronger for like $60 and it saves I think 7-8 oz. and PT Models from troybuilt sells carbon props that are real light too, and are supposed to be the best props out there, other than the Vess of course, you could probably try that to make it lighter but its alotta $$$$ and u already have alotta $$$ in there already. Mainly just watch out not to land it too hard with that landing gear

Hey Yaks are Best, Thanks for the props on my build, I took the landing gear thing into consideration when building and had TNT make me a super strong aluminium gear, which is where a little extra weight came from. I think the stock gear is 1/8"( I through it in the garbage with the pop cans) but had the new one made @ 1/4" thick. I will probably crack the mounting formers before bending this gear....The Graphtech gear is nice but under these loads will probably splinter pretty quick. Maybe I will pick one up and put it to the test. I can definately bring the weight down , but HAD to run my smoke setup. and that adds at least 8-12 oz dry. I have seen guys fly these planes from 17.5 to 20 lbs with great results and they all ran smaller motors. Though not recommended I desided to bring this plane to its limits with the 80cc. The recommended 3w 50 weighs close to the 80 so Im not that far off. All the extra weight is the bells and wistles I dont really need. I will let you all know how it turns out. Thanks guys for all the positive feedback. ![]() John C. |
