Ok I have my choices narrowed to 3 kits. I have commited myself to the project now after some research and some help for you guys. I am def going to build a 500cc gasser. Now I have it narrowd to 3 kits. The wildhare 260, EF 300, or the Hanger 9 carden yak 54. My local shop offered me a pretty nice deal on the yak but I don't know. The combos that wildhare has is nice but how are the engines in the combos?? I saw, I think a zdz 50 (do not remember if that is right for like 329.95 on the "cheap way into gassers " thread. What do you guys think. Right now I have Hitec 6975 servos( I will probably change a few for metal gears) I just ordered a Ar7000 reciever and I have my DX7. I have alot of extensions and so forth already. What do you guys think on the 3 frames and engines. ( I can;t shell out 550.00 on a DA 50) |

If you can't "shell out 550.00 on a DA 50", then I suggest that you look at the Wildhare 260 or Carden Yak. The EF is going to be above your price range. My suggestion would be the Wildhare which you can get with the hardware and engine for under $1000, unless your hobbyshop can give you a better deal.

You can use any 50cc engine on it. It'll definitely be the best plane, IMO, but If you cannot afford a DA, you probably can't afford an EF. Keep in mind, there is a lot more to buy than an airframe, engine and hitorq/metal gear servos.

You can't shell out $550 for a DA, but you have the $$ to buy an $800 50cc airframe? BTW, a DA will be closer to $700 with a muffler and shipping. If you're on a budget, there are lots of nice alternatives. The DL is a proven powerplant for the budget mined. That XYZ looks promising as well. You could also find a nice used G-62 and have Ralph convert it to EI. Lots of choices. One thing to keep in the back of your mind is Customer Service. If you have an issue with either your airframe or engine, does the company you're dealing with have a strong reputation for good customer service? To me, that's worth a lot more than saving a couple bucks on the initial purchase. Good luck!

Wh y If I do not want to spend $550 on a Da without a muffler can I not afford an EF plane. I already have servos and want to buy a good plane and a descent engine to start in gassers. I do not understand the logic of saying that I cannot afford a EF . 649.95 and a wildhare hare is about the same after the hardware kit and shipping so roughly a 100.00 more for the EF than a wildhare????? Oh well I am on about a 1200.00 budget for the plane and engine and batteries .

$800 shipped $450 for new servos.(over 200 .oz in.,, ,yours are rated at 144 at 6V) $700 for a DA 50 $300 minimum for other stuff.(i.e. prop, servo arms, batteries etc.) The EF is going to run you over $2000 by the time you're done with it. What does your LHS want for the Yak?

Maybe for a first gasser, you should look at a used RTF plane. There are lots of good deals from great people. JMO

Check the swap shop here on fg, or the classifieds on rcu. There are all kinds of 50cc airframes available, from just the airframe to complete rtf, ranging from 300 bucks to 1500 bucks. I was just looking myself today. If you are on a set budget then maybe you are going to have to settle for something other than what you want- or you can save a little more to buy what you want. http://www.rcuniverse.com/market/item.cfm?itemId=486774 theres a 50cc rc league yak 54 for 400 bucks brand new. CF stab/wing tubes/lg/tw. This will AUW less than the h9 carden, too. Just something else to think about. |

To answer your engine question, the TOC-53 is a proven performer. I've sold over 200 of them and have never had one returned because of a mechanical failure while running. That's saying a lot considering the wide range of people with a wider range of skills that buy these engines. If the prices were reversed between a ZDZ-50 and a TOC-53 I'd still buy the TOC and I'm quite sure I'd still sell them too. It's a really durable, smooth, reliable engine. TF |
