Question Good engine or not

Building my first Gasser. I have got a Wild Hare Sukhoi SU-26 86" wingspan 50cc size. It was given to me after a little crash. I have a 3W 70 would this be Ok to put on this airframe. Wild Hare engine req. is 50-60cc. The engine was given to me by a freind to use. Just wanting to know good idea or bad? Thanks

If you can trade or sell the 70 to get a 50cc engine you will probably be better off.

The problem with the 3W-70 is that it is too heavy for a 50-60cc bird and not strong enough to give a 33% good power. There is a reason that particular engine was given away.

BTW if you haven't figured it out already, I wouldn't even think about putting that engine on the Wildhare.

I'd put it in and fly. I assume you are not in search of the perfect 3D monster etc. Sachs 4.2's were put in 84 inch planes all the time. I know more than one 90" Comp-Arf with a 3W 75cc in it.

Yes, by todays standards it is a heavy engine for that plane. Back when power seekers would have done it and did. Put the Rudder servos in the tail in a push pull and place the batteries far back near the turtle deck and I'll bet it will balance without any dead weight.

That's really all that matters, can it balance without a bunch of lead under the tailwheel. As far as the plane being rated for that size it's a damaged plane given to ya. No warranty to worry about and throttle management is a nice problem to have.

People are putting 40cc gas engines in 1.20 size (74") planes now. Moki 1.80 and 2.20 in same planes. Something I would not have even considered 15 years ago.

very well stated , put the combo together and fly it . It is going to be enjoyable and a good learning experience ..

Because it is going to add too much weight to the airframe, it will stall/snap easier and will not fly precision aerobatics or 3d as well. If the originator of this forum does not want to learn 3d and want to do just basic aerobatics it will probably work OK. I am a 60/40 3d/IMAC flyer and always set-up my airplanes to accomplish this

Thanks guys! I have compared the weight and ya'll are right with a 50 size engine airframe will be a round 61-17lbs. but with the 70 it looks to be around 19-20. I will continue to look for a good 50 size.
