Hi Guys, just buying one of the 100cc yaks and looking at putting a zdz80 RVJ, has anyone flown one with DA85 and what setup. Looking at one servo per wing and one rudder, build as lite as possible. Mark |

Don't know if the 80 will be enough power, if it were the Super 80 I would say yes. Another thing about the ZDZ, it's light and I think you may have a problem with balance. Hopefully it will work out for you, keep us informed, I would like to know. Do a build thread if possible.

The RVJ is the most powerfull of the 80's and it would be on a can, my local dealer has fitted them in the following 100cc models, similar weight's. Katana my 260 yak and as you can see they all flew well, i just wondered if anyone had fitted the DA85 or zdz80 and had results to share, and i would shift the motor, throttle choke servos forward for balance. I am building my second AW Yak 54 and it is a heavy plane. If you are looking to do 3D I would look to a different motor. Or a different plane. Maybe a QQ 101. You can get a great deal from Chief on those.

Im also building my second AW Yak 54 and agree with jdearduff. Im waiting for my exhaust and CF landing gear to get a total weight, i took a dremel to the plane trying to save weight. Im using da 100 with da mufflers, my first one final weight was 29lbs 11oz and it flew what i thought was alright. But after reading threads on how to get weight saved on these planes i cant wait. if you go with a 80 size i would highly recommend you use a pipe, but that plane isnt pipe ready, which then means you have to design something which is probably no big deal, but now adding weight. IMO a 80 with a pitts just wouldnt be enough. In my setup 2 5955 in each aileron 2 5955 on the rudder and one 5955 on each elevator. I have been wondering if i could get away with getting rid of a servo from each aileron and the rudder and still be alright?

My reckoning was one servo per aileron, one for the rudder space motor forward and then i should be at 27lbs, i have a dealer who flies 100cc aeroworks extra 1 servo per wing no issues. I was thinking of fitting a can not a pitts. You have me wandering about this plane !!! Mark Last edited by mark nichols; 02-27-2009 at 04:55 PM. |

Mark is he using the inner or outer wing hole? The AW yak is fun, thats why im doing another one, also cause of unfortunent events. AW 85cc new yak is a better design. My buddy has the old design, with 2 servos in the wing 2 on the rudder with a ZDZ 80 Super on a can. His total weigh is 25lbs. And it flys awesome 3Ds awesome, his plane got me hooked. With the new yak uses less servos 1 per aileron and rudder and lighter. I own the 75cc AW extra 260 that came out at 22lbs. He cant believe the difference. Have you bought the plane already? If you have, you wont be dissappionted, its a awesome all around plane. Just a 80 i dont think would make you happy. IMO Gene |

Hi Gene, Ive placed a deposit to hold the airframe till i travel to see it, i can change my mind and will look at the 85cc. You have me thinking hard on this, I have seen it fly on a 100 and its good so i thought on a lighter engine it should be good but maybe not, if you guys own them and know how it flies. It gets great flying reviews and after seeing Leesburg and Kevin flying I was hooked and the stars and stripes scheme got me, but i will see both planes and decide. Lite flies better. Many thanks for the reply Regards Mark |

The AW Yak is at least a pound heavier than their 260 no matter how you slice it and dice it. If it is the AW quality you want and not necessarily set on a Yak, then I HIGHLY recommend their 100cc 260 for your 80. I lightened mine about as much as you can without making your own hatch and fiberglass parts or removing covering and am at 25-3/4 with the old DA and stock mufflers. I also ended up with the rudder servo and my 7 ounces of rx batteries in the tail, so a lighter engine would CG fine and you could potentially get in the low 24 pound range.

Yes ive been looking at the extra 260, i do like yaks's but i may have to change my mind here to save weight. I dont really want to spend all that extra money on a DA100, so thats why im fancying the zdz 80. I was a QQ man but as hes gone AW quality is superb and unfortunately the sars and stripes scheme had me hooked. Thinking cap on. Mark |

Mark the 100cc extra 260 would be a great choice of plane, and like bodywerks said the 260 would be a lighter plane and would be a good combo with your zdz 80. Good Luck, let us know with what you go with. Gene |
