How has a 50cc Pilot-RC Yak?

I'm looking for a back-up plane for my 50cc WH Edge.... Been thinking of a Yak and the Pilot-RC Yak sure looks inviting. I'd mostly like to hear some feed back from anyone with experience with the 50cc size Yak from Pilot-RC.
If you have had any experience with Pilot-RC at all I guess that info would be good too.
Looks like they don't use the Robart style hinges???? How's the quality of the flat hinges that they use?
How's the overall fit and craftsmanship?
Any bad flying habits? I've never flown a Yak, but from what I've heard it's a good flying plane.

Anyway.... any feedback I can get from you folks out in gasser land would be great.

Buddy here has one with a Brison 3.2, all 8611's, CF version of course, Fromeco batts and regs and it came out to 14# and change. It flies very light and nimble, it does have a little coupling needed in KE just as most all planes do. I flew it on the day of the maiden and I liked it alot, no complaints here.

large round cowls don't typically fly as fast as say an Edge.

You will notice a constant speed especially on uplines.

Question Mike, How were the landings with your buddies Pilot Yak? I know my WH Edge is just a baby on landings.... almost lands like a 40 sized funfly plane.... just floats along.

Question Sweetpea, Would you say the speed diff from the edge to the yak is a good or bad thing? or is it just a different characteristic that you just have to adapt to?
Does it cause you to have to keep more power on during final approaches?

Mike we need to go back out and fly it when I installed the firewall I had a little down thrust in it. Now it's where it should of been so lets see how it knife edges. In the Get Er done giant scale section There is a video on the just another extra 260 on a diet on page 67 post number#796. I like this plane a lot flys great and flys light and lands slow. I know there has been some other post on the Pilot Yaks and extra's some don't beleive the weight or flying results some do. As most arf's planes there are good ones and bad ones and some that just need some tweeking to make the fly like you want. As for the Pilot yak in the 50 cc I am very happy I bought it well worth the money the covering was tight out of the box and no need to iron it! I like the fact it comes with all the carbon tubes spinner landing gear that looks awsome by it's self and a carbon tail wheel and the control linkages all ready made up and the pull pull installed already. It goes togeather fast and a DL or a DA 50 will do just fine for power. Tony from Pilot offers the kit in carbon and a MT-57 engine or in the alum version for a lot less. You can get it with the engine or with out in carbon or in alum. If you get one you will not be dissapointed at all. A big plus too you can pay a little more and get Pilot to cover it in your scheme that alone makes it a awsome deal because how many arf's out there can you have your own color or colors done to it before you get it off the shelf.

Thanks for that input! How does that removable rudder work? Don't mind saying that a removable rudder makes me nervous.... That would really suck if the rudder parted ways in flight! Is there a way to make the rudder a permanent install?

Heres a pic of mine on my 40%, I suggested Greg do his the same and it works great. still removeable but impossible to come off in flight. Just cut the wire shorter as to not stick out of the top of rudder, put a nice size bend in it and use the cheapo wire LG retainer to hold it in place, the fuel tubing is just to take up the slack in the wire, to keep it tight. You have to take off the TG to take the wire out, so I see no way it can come out in flight. This is the first time Ive done this, and I like it, being able to remove the rudder when needed is nice.

I tested one of the first production run 50cc with a MT57 - the plane flew pretty well and light but it came out really tail heavy and had to add a lot of weight to the nose.

did the mt57 seem to vibrate alot?

Yeah like "a lot" I even balanced the prop, and the prop hub but didn't seem to help. I also blew the crank and head gasket in two different occasion but the engine had more than enough power for that plane though.
