Hey Guys, I'm looking for a new IMAC airframe and engine combo for next year. I have been flying Wild Hares for a few years now and I'm a little tired of covering as it takes alot of work to keep looking nice. I have nothing against the wild hares as they fly great, but I would like to upgrade to a comp arf 2.6m which will be powered by a DA100 and either KS1060 or MTW RE2 pipes. Problem is I'm not sure which airframe to go for? I've been flying a 35% Sukhoi for a while and I love the slow downlines it produces, but I also love the look of the extra's. Just after some opinions from guys flying them in IMAC comps. I currently fly intermediate but I'm looking for an advanced/unlimited setup. Cheers Rusty

Hey Rusty, I'd go with the 260 or maybe the Yak. The 300SX won't take pipes, you'd have to run cans on it I think, we just tried to put a RE3 in ours, I don't know what the difference is in diameter between the RE3 and the RE2 but the RE3 was a CLOSE fit in between the Wing Tube and the under carriage leg so we ended up going a can. 2.6m Yak 55sp. Long pipe tunnel that's not difficult to mod if you have real long pipes. Can fits are easy. Downlines are relatively slow, uplines do not require max rpm if you use a good 106 to 116cc engine. Very easy to maintain constant flight speeds. You're already used to the round cowl and how they effect flight speed.

I have just put together a 2.6 330L comp arf. i just started trimming it and so far I love it for imac. I am working on engine thrust now but even with not much trimming done it is showing signs of being a very capable imac bird. Flies as close to a 40%er as any other 35%er I have flown. I have a 3w106 in mine and the weight is looking to be in the mid 25lbs range so it has more than enough power. With a 28X10 bolly it is slow on downlines as well. To be fair, a friend of mine has the 2.6 yak 55 and it flies very very too so its really up to. Either way you wont be disappointed.

Flew my 2.6 330L from Intermediate through Unlimited. Having said that it does couple more than it should and flies fast, but it has the best power to weight (with the DA-100) of any plane that I have owned or flown. 25-1/4 pounds.

I had a 2.6 260 pwr by DA100 standard mufflers, really good plane for Imac, I used mostly 2 blade 27x10 and 28x10 carbon props, when you run a 3 blade mejzlik 25x12 it does very slow down lines and it pulls vertical real well to. FLying was at 1550 ft. Rgds\CC

Rusty, I have owned and competed with the 330 and the yak, both great planes, I have flown the 260 several times, and whilst not set up for me, was impressed, have not flown the 300, but I am sure it would be good also, so I guess it comes down to which one takes your fancy.

Go with the 260 been flying it in IMAC with DA 100 I think it draws the best line out of all them. You will have plenty of power with 2 blade 28x10 on pipes. Main advantage with YAK is slower down line. But no matter what you choose comp arf flys true.

i think that the yak has the least need for mixing out coupling issues. mine has literally zero pitch coupling mixes in it! i have a 3w106cs in her and she is still just about 25lbs and has awesome power.

I'm leaning towards the 260 but I don't want the taxi scheme, just to many of them around the Australian IMAC sene. I really like the 300sx in the patty scheme but if it doesn't have enough room for pipes I guess it's out. I really want the extra power for when I'm ready to move up to advanced. Is it possible to get the futaba or JR sceme on the 260 from the factory? I think they would look awesome.
