Good Morning Everyone..... I need help finding a new airframe for my DA 50. This passed weekend I lost a 27% Hangar-9 Extra 260 to a tip stall on final approach about 8 feet off the ground. Needless to say, the airframe was a complete loss, but everything else was virtually unscathed. I am looking for an airframe that does not have the nasty tipstalling charicteristics of the H9 Extra 260. I also own a H9 Carden Yak, so please do not suggest that model. I would like to get another extra, but i am open to just about any suggestion just as long as you have experience with the model that you are recomending. Thanks... |

That's a nice plane, and I also suggest the Aeroworks 260. It is smaller than the EF, but also a tad lighter. It is just a great all-around plane. The EF is a larger plane but very light for its size. The problem with your h9 260 was most likely that it was too heavy with a 50 in it. it only has a 78" wingspan and like 1100 squares. Yours is not the first I have heard of to hae tipstalling problems. Regardless of what you get, make sure it is at least 82 inches in span, 1300 squares or more, and under 18 pounds.

Last weekend I flew a friends 50 cc Pilot R/C Yak, DA 50, std muffler, and Mezjlick 22x8 prop. We tuned the engine nicely so there was no burble. I then flew the whole FAI P09 sequence with the plane and it was a joy to fly! I was really surprised how well it cut the wind and tracked. Upline speed and overall power was really impressive (to me). It was not quite like my 2M PassPort with YS 170CDI, but it was close enough to make it a bunch of fun. it needs a few points of up elevator mix and a little bit of roll mix and that was it. Thanks, Jim W.

I would suggest the AJ Slick 540 from the 3D Hobbyshop. With a DA or DL 50 this plane is incredible. The price is a touch more than others in the 50cc class but its also the largest and probably the most stable flying as well.

Its like the top shelf at a bar, there is not just one good bottle. I just did a ton of research and bought my 50cc, and would say the top shelf of 50cc is EF yak or extra (huge), Pilot, 3dh shp, that new PAU su26, and the new wave of 50cc from AW (although a tad heavy). All big enough companies to also have spare parts for a long time.....one will catch your eye, good luck
