Thanks for the offer Charles. Unfortunately, my 126" Slick is out of commission.... for good. It was six of the most wonderful, nerve racking, and expensive flights I've ever had in my (short) RC carreer. I dumb thumbed it once when I hit the crash switch on the 9303 (which I was unfamiliar with)... you know the Aux 2 switch that causes the other half of the elevator to flip up / down . It crashed HARD, and broke the fuselage in half in MULTIPLE placesI rebuilt it, recovered it, and Andrew was kind enough to send me his spare canopy. Unfortunately, on her 4th flight, I soon find out that my repair was inadequate. The plane broke right where it broke before. This time, there's no going back. I'm so heartbroken right now, I don't know what to say. I don't think I've been this sad about a crash before that I'm actually going through a grieving process .I've got some videos of the flights, one each in each color scheme, but they're not that exciting, as I wasn't going wild with 3D at the time. In the short time I flew her though, could tell that this plane is a winner. I had my CG at neutral 3D, meaning it flies hands off inverted and upright. With that CG, it still tracks and does IMAC like it's on a forward CG. Snaps are beautiful and the most precise I've seen. KE-KE snaps looses no energy. However, turn the 3D rates on, and she's a wild 3D machine. Waterfall and KE on the axis. Dead silent and stable harrier... Ok, back to mourning Last edited by BoneDoc; 06-17-2009 at 10:24 PM. |

It will be in another 126" Slick for sure, but I'm not sure if I'm ready for this airframe at this time ... maybe I should make my bunny hop to 100cc class. ... I do love that 103" Extra 330 SC in Red .

But you've got the semi-new 170 sitting around!! You could sell it and get a DA 100 + some dolla's and go for the nice 103".

I've sort of been there, I let a kid (good kid, good stick) fly one of my planes once. I showed him the D/R switches, but for some reason he grabbed a switch I had set up for spoilerons when he came in to land and severely ran out of elevator authority on final. Wadded it up.

Ben lent me the 9303 for the 126" Slick, so I wasn't as familiar with it. The Aux 2 switch, when NOT disabled will flip your slaved elevator up / down a good 20' the way I had it.

What happens is you plug in your other elevator servo into Aux 2 so when you flip the switch before it being disabled it will take it to the extremes. Sorry to hear about this Josh, I was hoping to hear that the repair held together. Andrew

So did I Andrew. One thing I fail to recognize as I move to this behemoth-size beauty, is the mass as well as surface area that this plane has. IMHO, the repair would've more than hold together on the 89" Slick. But I simply fail to fully apprecate the mass and force that this plane generate on its components... There will be #2 though. I'm just not sure when. Congrats Andrew on such an excellent design. I can't wait till Sleepy and John gets theirs. It'll be awesome for sure. |
